Fixing Mushrooming....hard for me to tell how straight I have to get it

I am in the process of changing out my front struts with Bilstein B4s, my front strut mounts with Lemforders, and ECS strut tower reinforcements as I am on a budget.

I can see that at least one of the strut towers has mushrooming but I am wondering how straight I have to get on it. I feel like every time I beat on that strut tower with a wood block and a sledge hammer it's just an act of randomness. There are a few videos on the topic but I just don't feel like I am getting it.

How close/far off can I be? I am lost and don't want to overdo it!

Seems like they get close and then if you put the plate on they will pull them a little more straight.

I just eyed mine up close on one side to the pics shown, then put my top ECS plates on, after that I got an aliment and GTG now and in spec.
