I will follow the instructions linked in post 16 if I go forward with this, but I still have a few questions about things that aren't clear to me before I start digging out old laptops and ordering the cable. I don't see any linked videos (yet, I will keep looking), so apologies if these are dumb questions.

This is for a Nov 2004 manufactured R53.

My ultimate goal here is to just do a proper recalibration and registration of a new steering angle sensor.

1) Do I need the round connector that connects under the hood? Or will the connector linked in post #16 on this thread do everything?
2) Is the software to do it all downloadable? Or do I need to buy some additional software or feature packs of some kind somewhere?

That is what I really need, but if that works, I would also like to be able to reprogram keys, but that is of secondary importance.

Thank you in advance for any first hand experience and knowledge doing this! The Foxwell NT510 Elite I bought to do this lies (it says it does it, but it appears it doesn't actually, as the steering angle never seems to get reset).

There is no connector under the hood. That’s an old BMW thing, IIRC. The software should all be floating around out there on the web somewhere.

Hey Shrevemini,
Are you still willing to do a remote login to my computer as you stated above? I have successfully installed INPA but I don't have the R50/R53 chassis options. If you are still around and don't mind, send me an email to llabnad@gmail.com or text me at 8594961507 and we can set up something.

Thanks in advance!

Danny

I can add all those remotely if you like. Just let me know. I have helped out a load of folks on here.
This is my first post, but I have been lurking around here for a few years. I just installed inpa and I need the above R-53 engine files in order to use it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey @DaleR

try here, you'll want to head into Daten folder and grab the v54. There is no specific R53 daten, it uses the R50 placeholder.

I’m using these files and install instructions for both INPA, NCSexpert and NCSdummy

I have gotten my cable to read and write back settings to the body control module, but only a few of them actually got applied. I have auto-up on both windows, and managed to get the sunroof out of remote comfort open via the unlock button, but a lot of other changes did not seem to affect the way the car behaves:
  1. Euro hazards
  2. Auto locking adjustment 12mph --> 16mph
  3. Comfort open via key in door
  4. Comfort closing via key lock button remote
  5. Lock acknowledgement blinks adjusted from 1 --> 3 blinks
  6. Unlock acknacknowledgement blinks adjusted from 0 --> 2 blinks
Will post my MAN file if someone can help me understand what I did wrong....

Hi @joe_bfstplk folks might not read your question, thinking its on a different topic. maybe a new thread would get a better response?

i am curious to know the details on how you did this and what the solution is.

is it possible that the facelift and pre-facelift models have different options with regard to the features that are avail?

@ssoliman Yes correct, the facelift have a lot more options available. I cant recall exactly what, there is countless aged forums discussing these variants.
I have a facelift, 06. Spent some solid hours tweaking and plugging away and some things just did not work.

@joe_bfstplk Is yours facelift(05-06) or pre? I can only speak on your 5,6 questions that they are possible on a facelift (at least mine)

April 2003 - which was apparently a month with a number of other changes (cooling fan wiring, for example). Will start a thread for this, as the original post is in a couple spots. Have since figured out the LAZY_LOCK (or whatever the exacy setting is called) needed to be `aktiv`, and now that works....

Thanks!
