R50/53 Electrical problems 2002 R50
Electrical problems 2002 R50
Ok so the car is new to me as I got it for $500 with a blown 5 speed. The person I got it from and already dug into it and had the trans out. I put the 6 speed into it and it runs and drivers great.
Here is the issue. I think I either have a BCM issue or a grounding issue.
Problems. When I turn on the lights the passenger side works driver does not. Confirmed with volt meter. Rear also no brake lights. When I was messing with bulbs in the rear however I replaced one of the rear brake lights with a turn sig light and boom all the lights worked. Except the center brake light was very weak.
Any ideas??
Thanks

Those are the main ones - there's a list of the others here somewhere or in the Haynes manual.
Oddly enough the battery terminals often seem to be loose, but if the car starts OK, those should be OK.
Be aware that corrosion of the tail light plugs is common, as is melted bulb holders - you may need to cut away some plastic to get at the bulbs.
On the early cars, there is a way of having only one side of the parking lights on. Make sure the directional switch is central.
I'd disconnect the battery overnight if you haven't already.
I assume you mean the high-level red brake light - that's all-LED & only replaceable as a complete unit.

It shouldn't be possible to do this as the bulbs are different. However, since you have, it probably provided the missing ground - by shorting out the two contacts on the stop/tail bulb.
