R50/53 06 Stuck in park
06 Stuck in park
The 06 has been sitting for a year. We dropped in a new battery, starts up and we can't get it to shift out of park.
We tried the over ride so we could move into the shop but it still will not shift. Acts like the cable to the transmission is lock up??
I believe this is a pre BMW build.
The list of known problems:
No brake lights, all three
Number 4 burn valve.
Has codes I have to go pull them again.
What I need:
What is the one thing that would cause all of this.
Looking for the Manual on line if anyone knows where to find it.
Cheap place to get parts and gaskets.
Thanks The FNG.

if you have no brake lights at all......that's probably your issue with the shift interlock system......you may not have power to the brake light switch under the dash at the brake pedal
First thing I would do is grab a test light, turn the key to "ON", and test all your fuses under the hood and in the drivers side kick panel

BMW builds started in 2001 (in the USA 2002).
There is a cable to the transmission and they can freeze up, if not used for a long time. Also, if the brake lock out switch is not working, it will not come out of park either.
You may need to replace the cable, if you can not get it to loosen up with a can of CRC Freeze off. (this is not uncommon for a car that has sat for a long time.
