R50/53 Are you/we guys driving a chick car?
I am a middle aged "chick" and I love driving my manual MCSC. I have received complements from both young and old, male and female. I would never have gotten a MINI with automatic transmission - to me, that would be no fun at all. When I first saw the MINI two years ago, I fell in love with the way it looked, and after test driving the MCS I knew I wanted one. I would love to get the JCW but with a couple of kids going to college in the next few years,I can't justify the cost. It would have been practical and logical to get the MC instead of the MCS but I loved the power of the MCS.
I think this car has great appeal to many types of people not just you young males who are too worried about it being a "chick" car.

and for those who think its a chic car...when I pulled up to my friends work the other day...her friend saw me and said, "wow, that car is a panty droper!"
I'll take that!

Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!! Good one, Nick!

Lessee, as I look out onto my driveway, I see a Volkswagen Cabriolet (the Rabbit based one), a New Beetle turbo and a MINI Cooper S. I'm perfectly comfortable driving any of them at any time. I don't believe that cars have a gender or that they define a person's orientation. But, what do I know?

You all have got to be kidding
I am a woman.
I have an '05 MCS on order.
It is a classic British Racing green, heavy on the chrome.
I am seriously thinking of adding JCW, but (maybe here's where a "chick part comes in) can't justify the cost because this is going to be primarily a street car.
Here in the Pacific North West, we've got the hills of San Francisco, the wide open roads of Montana and some of the longest commutes in the country.
I need power! I need speed. I like it, I "get it" and that is certainly NOT the provence of any gender or sexual orientation.
Wow, no wonder advertising works.
Go on keep the advertisers happy, keep pigeonholing a great car.

I motor in the central Rocky Mountains and plains and I find no need to justify the cost of the JCW. But then I like stock cars, and believe me the 05 MCS is one fast car. My radar detector is always on.

Type of ride
Here's one thing everyone can put in the bank.
Last week I went to Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Ca. (Sears Point) to take a karting class. I counted three mini's in the lower parking lot when I got there. Two hardtops and one conv., all MCS. One was decked out in full SCCA garb, sponsor decals, numbers etc.....
The guy who taught our class is licensed to drive NASCAR cars and has raced professionally in Europe and the U.S. When I told him at lunch time that I drove a MCS, his eyes widened and he said some very complementary things about these Minis, so for what it's worth, everyone can rest assured that their confidence in their car should come from it's performance not its perception.
HTH.

Well done BdMINI
I went to the International Car Show at Qwest Center in Seattle today. I asked some knowledgeable folks about adding the JCW. Got some good advice (Jimbo, they agree with you) that I should wait and see how I like the MCS without enhancements. Maybe add it later if I start feeling the need for greater speed.
I reiterate, a lot of "ladies" like to shift, like the speed, like the control. MINI is a fantastic car for anyone who loves a complete thought.

This morning I was reading the morning paper and came across an article written by Tanya Barrientos “Gender Specific”, it was originally posted in Philadelphia earlier this year but it showed up in our local paper this morning. (see below for a link to the same article from a Salt Lake online News Paper)
Here are a couple of excerpts that caught my eye:
“So, what is the ultimate chick car? Cabrio? VW Beetle? Mazda Miata? PT Cruiser? Mini Cooper?”
“Which brings us back to the Mini Cooper. The modern remake of the classic British road-rally car has all the makings of a fem-mobile. It is small. It is darling and it has soft, friendly edges instead of sharp, aggressive angles.”
“''Is the Mini Cooper a chick car? No,'' insisted Andrew Cutler, communications manager for Mini U.S.A. He said that 60 percent of Mini Coopers are purchased by men, but he did not know how many of those men bought the cars for their wives or daughters.” (no, but)

Gosh, I don't know whether it's a good thing or a bad thing that articles this dumb take nearly a year to hit your local paper.
I do think I'll get a set of those Tinkerbell floormats if they make them in MINI size.

Oh, here we go again with the 'chick car' stuff.
Okay, fine. Call it a chick car. Then go and chase one with your Camaro into some twisties and you'll find out what a ***** it can be.

Here's the key.....
This is a nice little rocket. chick car? Don't know...... But it is cute enough that after months of dreaming of having one, my wife said "just go buy one. And don't get the base, get the S, I don't want to hear you ***** later."
So, it's hot enough for me to want one, and cute enough so that my wife didn't mind me getting one. that wouldn't have worked with a WRX.....
But then, Cheryl is special, she also said that if I could work the $, I could get a Ford GT. Too bad it's so expensive......
