I have teased my salesperson that I might show up to pay for my car with a briefcase full of cash handcuffed to my wrist. . .

Now I am thinking pennies! Of course, I would have to figure out how many pennies that is going to take as well as how to transport them to the dealer.

Some simple calculations based on a price of $24000, the weight of a penny (approx. 3 grams) and the volume of a penny (approx 0.35ml) came up with some interesting results.

The listed interior storage volume of the MINI is 23.6 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. I estimate that without a front seat passenger, there should be at least 6 cubic feet of usable space up front.

Now here is what is really bizarre: I just calculated that the volume of pennies necessary to purchase my MINI (29.6 cubic feet) would fit perfectly INSIDE my MINI with room enough for me to get in the driver's seat.

Only problem is that $24000 worth of pennies would weigh 8 tons. . . .

So I think I will stick with the boring "Plan B" and just get a cashier's check like a normal sane person. . . .

Uh................ok.
Someone wanna get this guy his MINI already?!!
That's funny man. Don't worry though. Strait jackets are in this year. Welcome to the insanity. Although you just hit a new level of it though. j/k That's a whole different experience of withdrawl that I've seen HERE thus far. I'm sure you'll savour the experience once it has arrived for ya.
Cheers mate,

Well, the most horrible nightmare of my insanity is the fact that my MCS is at the dealer right now! and I cannot pick it up for about 10 days because it is halfway across the country and I am still packing boxes so that I can to move to be with my MINI!

At least I get to severely punish and abuse my stepchild of a VW GTI for one more cross-country road trip before I turn it in to a dealer. . . .I only bought the damn thing so that I could have something to hold me over for 2 years until I could get the MINI of my dreams. . . .

Thanks for supporting me despite my madness. . . .

ok dude, you're done! you might want to reconsider the wait for your trip to get yours...I'm not sure you're gonna make it before the guys in white come with the crazy jacket and the padded walls.

It's all perfectly ok.....whenever I begin to wonder about my sanity, I just come on MCO and talk to everyone here. My non-MINI friends are all convinced that I am completely insane.....I would like to thank everyone on MCO for sharing in my craziness with me.

"Sure, you can drive your MINI away just as soon as we coun't these pennies...
1....2.....3.....4....5"

Lets say 1 penny a second (I know you can start faster but 15601 takes about a second to say"

And let's say the dealer is only open 8 hours a day 5 days a week to count your pennies.

24000*100 / 60 / 60 / 8 / 5 = 16.7.

Yup you just added over 16 weeks wait to pick up your car.

I've been there and did it. In 1980 I was closing on a house and the load. Had managed to really **** me off. I went to the bank and cashed a check for $25k for the donw payment. (used $1 bills only, renoved the roll wraper and stucked them in several garbge bags. Well shaken not sturred. It was a late pm meeting. When I was asked for the down payment I knifed the bags and dumped them on the floor. It was worth it just to see their faces. "What the hell are you doing? You can't do that!" I asked them if the were refusing the cash. Damn well hoped they would say no as thay would have voided all for me debths. The old "THIS IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE" The took the money. Damn it almost worked. I did enjoy seeing them count the money over and over to get the correct amount, not to mention the overtime they had to pay out.

Motor On

Or you could pay for your MINI in Italian Job Gold Bars,
Those are heavy!!

Personally plastic works for me.
I'll charge it, thanks.
Gets me miles so I can earn another free trip soon.
Maybe I'll go to Bankok. Spicy food is good. Oops Too spicy.

Obviously this a desperate cry for help. You have it. Yes, you are in crisis but you are not, I repeat, you are not insane. You are reacting like any sane person to an insane situation. This will pass and you will be at one with your Mini. Breathe slow, grasshopper, breath slow and come up with a calming mantra. Perhaps "Mini is Mine Mini is mine...".

Be assured too that there are many friends here to support you in this time of stress. The torment of the present is only a prelude to the pleasures of your future.

Hey, and besides, I believe there are laws limiting the amount allowable to pay in pennies.

Just an FYI and not to rain on your parade, but...any cash transaction of more than $10,000 will be reported to the federal gov't aka IRS on form 8300 in compliance with the patriot act of 2001 in an effort to stop money laundering through auto, boat, and plane dealerships.

Personally I think it would be hilarious to show up with bags full of currency, but I think in this instance...save yourself the headache and get the cashiers check.

... not moving - already moved ... has had the car for months now ..

Someone thought dredging up a 10-month old thread was illustrating some sort of point ...
