2003 mini died while driving replaced cps still wont run

Got a 2003 mini driving down the hiway at 70 mph and it died quit running had it towed home and hooked up scanner got two codes for the crank position sensor. i replaced the sensor still wont start just turns over. checked the new sensor with a millimeter off the car dont get anything, checked the connector pig tail and got .739 ish the wiring all looks good to the fuse box and computer little stiff but dont appear to be cracked or broke. any thoughts?? this thing has me stumped thanks

Four thoughts: check for 1) spark at the plugs; 2) pressure at the fuel rail; 3) fuel pump if no pressure at the rail; 4) solid connections at ground straps front and rear.

Ill look at them tonight, would i get cel codes on them if there was a problem with them like spark misfire code, ill make sure tonight. also if there is no spark that would be due to the crank position sensor right? this is the first problem i have had with the car in 15 years. also put new battery in about 3 months ago and checked for load and was fine thanks cooper48 for reply

Not sure any of these would throw a code. Maybe someone else on the forum can better answer that question. Every engine needs spark and fuel to operate. A no-spark situation should lead you back to a possible bad coil if none of the plug wires are providing said spark. If you have spark at the wire(s) then your next step should be to examine your fuel system for malfunctions, specifically analyzing pressure at the fuel rail. There's a Schrader valve (similar to that found on a bicycle tube) at the end of the fuel rail to enable a pressure test. No pressure would typically mean a bad fuel pump (or fuel line obstruction/break). Also, if the fuel pump (under the back seat) is good, you should be able to hear it prime when you turn your key to position 1 (non-starting position). I doubt that, since you replaced it, your CPS is the issue.

Checked fuel pressure is good. replaced the fuel filter just because. checked for spark no spark replaced the plugs and wires and coils still no spark. pulled the cps back out to check the reluctor wheel on crank to make sure it didnt come apart and its good spins free, thinking maybe changing the cps with a new one again maybe got a bad one

with key on, you should have 12v at one of the wires on the crankshaft sensor plug, same with the camshaft plug as well......
