2005 Optional LSD???

Just read the 1-yr update of the S Works in the latest issue of Automobile.... one owner of an earlier year claims an LSD will be available on the 2005 model.

Anybody heard anything about this?

For my interest in the car, it's an absolute must... but finding somebody to put it in *right* is very difficult. Would rather get it from the factory if possible.

You need to read Gabe Bridgers MotoringFile regularly

First news of LSD (way back in June!)
LSD update
Details on the new LSD

Seems very unlikely there will be any dealer retrofit - but I am sure they will be happy to sell you a whole new car

Ah, thanks - this is what I get for attempting to configure the car off the MINI site.

So, this is good news!

So, what's the real world benefit of having the LSD on a daily driver MCS?

I am just trying to determine whether this option is worth the money for someone like me that does not race or Auto X and lives in hot and humid Florida...

Spoke with my MA today and she said that the LSD is a clutch-type LSD and will run $500. I'm going tomorrow to finally order my car as this is the info I had been waiting for!!!

It's worth every penny of $500. You can't even get a POS Phantom Grip installed for that little.

So, can you actually order an MCS with LSD yet? I thought they wouldn't take orders until next year.

The LSD-equipped cars start being built after 1 Jan. 05, so you can order with your dealer before and specify a build month (depending on your dealer's allocation). I did this in April 2004 when I first heard about the LSD option! Of course the final specs from your dealer will actually be submitted to the factory some time in December '04 if it is a January '05 build.
