Flooded Battery Box

Anyone have the battery box in the boot flood and short out the car? My 2004 R53 had this happen due to leaks in seals in three different areas! Fortunately, my insurance covered as it was a $3,200 repair at MINI of Portland. $100 deductible and a 2018 loaner car from the dealer.

My old mini flooded like that but didn’t short. I solved the problem by drilling a drain hole. I just noticed my new JCW is starting to leek in the boot too. Damn. I took the battery out and poked a hole in the tape under the battery. I am concerned about it filling up and causing an expensive repair.

You will need to pull the battery and clean the drain on the bottom, they get clogged from time to time.
Also a loose rear wiper will allow water to get in the battery box, aline with the hatch door.
There are rubber adjusting screw stops on the outer part of the inside hatch. screw in enough to not allow it to rattle, but not out far enough to cause gasket leaks.
