M7 Coilovers...for the Money Pit

So I picked up some coil overs which have been in a guys garage for a couple of years. They need a little love but I think we can get them into shape.

Thoughts on what I have gotten myself into? We think we are ok with the ride that will come with them.

What surprises do I have here? It looks like the rubber on the fronts is a little rotten, how can I get in there?

Ok...Parts guys...

I need to replace the rubber boots at the top of the coil overs. Does anyone know where I would go about ordering them from? Not sure on the accuracy, but the guy I bought them from said some parts are interchangeable with Billstein?

Buy a gator to cover the whole spring and collars. The boots just keep some of the dirt out.

Ok

I will look for gator covers. I looks like the rubber is also there’s to prevent the shock from “bottoming out”?

Thanks

I would get them rebuilt. They weren’t that great of a coilover even back in the day.

Judging from the rubber pads and cracked rubber bushings, they have been to the moon and back. I would check the damping forces (both ways) before putting any money into them.

I wonder if M7 gives a Core Credit on new shocks...

By the time you rebuild these the cost may well be over the cost of flat out buying new M7s.

Motor On!
