What a Scam....

$17k for a questionably-tasteful JCW? No, thank you

It might not be to your taste and it might be a bit overpriced but how exactly is it a scam?

Poorly priced vehicles hardly constitute a scam.

It is really ugly, though.

okok, it's probably not a scam per se...but who in their right mind would pay $17.5k in 2017 for an R53?? Think of all the cars you could buy for that price range...you could have a drift car, a motorcycle, a daily, an offroader, and a weird project to spare! I don't know, just thought you guys might get a kick out of it!

He's probably asking 17k because there's only 15k miles on it and alot of mods - allegedly, it is 1 of 6 from this customizer (Fireball Tim), making it a 'limited edition'.

You can see it listed here as well.

value of this Mini

While all the embellishments are not my cup of tea I do not see this being ridiculously overpriced, given it only has 15,000 miles. Where are you going to find a MCS this low mileage?

Adjust for inflation and do a bit of estimate. This car plus just the JCW add-on back in 2006 was at least $26000. You can look at it two ways:
  1. New price of $26000 back in 2006, in today’s dollar it is $32,362
  2. Taking the asking price of $17500 and convert to 2006 dollar is only $14,059

It is not overpriced in my view.

I don't think that it's a SCAM, rather just a high priced car. Good luck to the seller.

Anything is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it.

I guess I never thought about it from a TVoM perspective! Comparing
  • time-adjusted asking price : original MSRP
with
  • current asking price : time-adjusted original MSRP

could be a really interesting way to look at cared-for cars' asking prices!

I dunno, I just really, really, really don't like the aesthetic choices...you can just tell it didn't get driven like it was supposed to be, idk. Not my cup of tea

Unless of course, I could afford to tear all that god-awful crap out of it and build something immaculate.

Too much bling for me but there are those that will be interested. Guy should try bring your trailer.

Would be interesting to find out if the MINI that Dale Jr had is still around.

Wow have not seen one of those fireball MINIs for a long time. Back in the day i think south bay MINI had a bunch designed by Tim for the dealership to sell or something.

It's a car that can be improved by subtraction (in my opinion). Subtract the graphics, wheels, rear spoiler and odd interior choices.

Is a 15k mile '06 JCW worth $17k? Not to me, but it probably is to someone.

Kevin, you're correct...it's a love/hate thing. I'm sure the seller will get a good price for the car. After all how many low mileage 2006 MINI coopers are available?

...One more thought...people buy boats and RVs every day and in some cases they lose $17,000 as soon as they drive or tow (the boat or travel trailer) off of the lot.

I don't find the interior to be over the top. It has Chrono and an armrest so good.
Much of the exterior stuff can be easily removed. The wheels are OK. Spoiler is a bit much, but I can deal. I like the gloss black trim. Pretty decent car. I would rather this car than spending the same on a much newer R56.

Fireball Tim

I had not heard of Fireball Tim, but he has many videos on YouTube, some of MINI Takes the States.
