thanks for that ...

I like how Japanese cars aways come up as "best value" winners in every one of these face-offs.

Lol @ the "price as tested" numbers ...the other two increased 2-3k over MSRP while ours increased close to 9k more.....10-13k more than it's competition You could buy another smart with all that extra money haha.

It's easy to load up the options on a Mini. I love how they compare an "S" to a smart car. It's like a pinto vs corvette comparison.

Imagine what class 28k puts you in...rather than $13k econo hatches.....you're now up against A3, the new suby hatch, VW gti, etc.

I'd certainly expect my car to win a comparison if it cost close to double what its competition did

It was interesting to learn that scion upped their engine performance. I didn't know they did that along with the new body-style. That's good to hear as I've heard the first engine was a bit sluggish on the highway

this is funny, I currently drive an xb (gen I) and I love it for what it is. I have averaged about 80 miles per day over the past few years (75,000 miles that past 2 1/2 years). I bought it knowing I would pile on the miles and wanted a cheap vehicle that I could haul the family in and get decent gas mileage (avrg between 30-33mpg). So it has more than served its purpose and I plan on keeping it as a third vehicle as long as I can.
Last year I had plunked down the $99 deposit for our Smart Car in April and was waiting for them to roll out. After the first few months I watched as new owners talked about the mpg's they were getting and saw an average between 35-40, which for such a small car and low hp output, should be well into the 40's. Also saw the complaints about the sluggish transmission. It was going to be our third car for my wife to drive to work, and since we have kids it was an easy decision to make. We decided to cancel our reservation, and ended up ordering the clubman. the rest is history..
