2017 JCW Clubman - thinking of buying, need some advice
Hi all,
We currently have a 2013 R56 and are looking to add to our fleet. We are looking at a 2017 JCW Clubman at a non MINI dealer in Quebec, Canada.
Link - http://www.autotrader.ca/a/MINI/Coop...c/5_35137377_/
Listed for 35,995, has been at dealer for about a month and they just dropped a grand to this price.
Not being up on the new clubman or JCW in general, what are the thoughts on this one?
Dealer is unwilling to move on price, got the this is the bottom line spiel, how much it's worth new blah blah blah.
Mileage is a little high for 8 months of use (16000KM), dealer states it was a trade by a regular customer that likes to drive and trade often. (It's a Hyundai dealer).
Production date according to VIN is November 2016, in service date is 4 Feb 2017.
I'm looking to the NAM community for advice on price, late model production, JCW (I know only what I've read).
Any help is appreciated. Would like to make a decision by morning, so any input is welcome.

That's a brand new hardly broken in JCW with 10,000 miles for $28000 USD if my conversions are accurate. That seems like a good price, but I haven't checked the options.
You could wait them out another month for a price drop, but it sounds like you are anxious and the dealer probably knows that.
Trading a newish JCW for a Hyundai? How odd.

If you like what the Clubman offers, I say the more power you have the better and from experience I can say the JCW engine is stellar! I wouldn’t worry too much about the options but you could ask to see the original spec. If they don’t have it simply run the VIN.
New MINIs depreciate fast the first year or so, especially with more miles, so I’d be sure to see what the original cost was. A new loaded Clubman JCW will surely be well above $40,000 (USD), but I’m no expert...so ask!
Dont be afraid to offer less and walk if they balk...you may get a phone call if you leave or they won’t let you leave! lol!
Good luck!

I agree with 02fanatic. Ask for the window sticker or run the VIN to get a list of options on the car. Once you get that you can go to MiniUSA.com and build a similar car to get an idea what it would cost new today. The mileage only comes out to ~1K miles per month which is not overly high IMO. The price sound pretty good, but could always be better. You'll still have a good bit of warranty left on it too. You can always request that you have an independent service tech look it over for you. I would just take it to the closest dealer, which you will be using for warranty work anyway. If this car had been available locally when I bought mine, I would have been sorely tempted. For everything you ever/never wanted to know about buying a Mini, check this out.

No guarantee that the MINI was traded for a Hyundai. A lot of used cars on a dealer's lot are actually not from trade-ins at that dealer. Most dealers wheel-n-deal on the dealer auction network to off-load cars that don't sell for one's that do or possibly attract used car buyers onto their lot. A friend of mine purchased an anniversary Mustang a couple years back from our car club's sponsorship dealer and he was able to get the full story on it. Turned out it sat on 3 other used car lots before making its way to our dealer's lot. They picked it up through an on-line dealer auction. Some cars travel quite a bit before finding their new home.

Yes, could have been moved around from dealer to dealer in the auto group chain also. Say came in through Cadillac and then ended up at their Hyundai dealership as its high traffic?

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. So after much discussion, only able to get them down another $500 and "waive" any fees. Contacted MINI Canada to discuss after running VIN for options to confirm and got the in service date from them directly (22 Dec 16).
Found out the car originally came from MINI Laval so about an hour or so from where it is now. Also found out that it has winter tires and mags (huge plus for our area, at minimum another $1000 bonus!)
Booked the day off work tomorrow and are making the 4 hour drive to see it in person. If all goes well, should be the proud new owner of a JCW Clubman ALL4. Feeling pretty excited to add another MINI to my garage.
Thanks again to all who chimed in with their thoughts and opinions, always good to hear from other MINI owners.
Cheers!
