R56 JCW Brembo To R53

Hey guys. Its already established that the standard R56 cooper S brakes bolt right up to the R53 spindles. My question is, has anyone tried retrofitting the standard R56 JCW 4 piston Brembos over to a R53?

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...t/34106856651/

If it stands to reason that the spindle is the same, it would make sense that these would bolt up. I don't want to go all the way with the GP2 calipers (I think they're overkill for a R53) but would definitely like to step it up to a multi piston caliper like this JCW R56 unit.

If anyone has one of these calipers laying around, Id be more than willing to test fit and document the results.

Nice you found my thread, I have OZ leggenda's in 17", as well as 17" OZ Allegaritas for my winters, they both seem to have a fairly decent offset for caliper spacing.

Welcome. Should be enough to clear, best is to test after install of the front wheels. If the face of the wheel comes close or touches, we have wheel spacers that can fix that.

I have a set of spacers for the car, I took them off for the winter. I found a set of fronts, have them in hand already, getting all the hardware in sometime this coming week. Hopefully with have some test fit photos on Wednesday.

Did you do anything with your rear brakes as far as retrofit? It would sort of be a shame to leave the rears stock.

Matched it with new Gen 1 MINI ECS cross drilled rotor and hawk pads. So Hawks HPS on the front with new JCW ECS rotors. This was to match the pad type with new rotors. If you have old rotor on the back with old pads the front will grab more. I did this to balance the front and rear out.

Then the paint the rear caliper to match the fronts.

Some people get the rears from the Gen 2 R56 JCW brakes and it balances out the front and rear more. Then of course with new pads and rotors.

Looks like the JCW R56 uses 280 x 10 mm. Stock is 259 x 10 mm.

I got EBC yellows for the front paired with zimmerman slotted / drilled rotors. I still have some meat on the back, so I'll see if I can get another deal on a rear JCW caliper set. I got the pair of front JCW calipers for 300 bux, in great shape at that.

Sounds like a plan, if you need anything let me know.

I would just make sure all the brake pads are good and new. If you get the JCW rears it will balance the car out more. The front brakes do most of the work, but the beefier the rears the less bias and nose dives.

Sounds good.

Just wanted to throw this in here as well.

It seems that they bolt right up, just need to cut away a small piece of the trailing arm in order for the brake line to attach to the caliper.

They're on! Bedding them in. Initial impressions, the initial bite is a bit lower down into the pedal, but once they hook, they grab much harder. Nose dive is much more pronounced, will definitely be upgrading the rears to R56 JCW brakes.

Is this a direct bolt on or did you need an adapter

Direct bolt on, only modification I needed besides the calipers and brake lines was I needed to trim the dust shields a bit, it was preventing the caliper from lining up correctly.
