Wheel spacer help!

Im thinking of buying some wheel spacers because I think that my stock R90 wheels look really good, but I think they would look a little better with some spacers.
The R90s have these measurements: 17x7 4x100mm 48et.
I have yet to measure the exact length from the tire to the fender flares.
I have looked around, and seen that alot of people suggest 15mm all around.
They claim that they don't cause problems, but I was wondering what you guys suggest.
Whats the thickest spacer to have without rubbing with the R90s?

I'm running 17x7.5 et.45 w/
215/40/17 tires w 5mm spacers
stock height with no problem of rubbing. So, if you're going to run 205/45or40/17 you should be ok.

I'm running 12mm spacers on the front and 5mm on the back with R90's and PSS 205/45/17's. The car is lowered with coilovers and I haven't had any rubbing.

The odd spacer sizing is because I needed spacers to clear the spring perch on the front coilovers so I got the 5mm's. I wanted a little more space and you can't get 10mm hub centric spacers for a MINI so I got the 12's and put the 5's on the back.

At this time you MIGHT consider switching to wheel STUDS and eliminate the problems associated with wheel BOLTS.

With the R90s we've seen just 5mm being fine. Wheel studs work well as they hold the spacers on easier.
