New Key - Dealer Cannot Program it! - new ECU needed?!?

Hi all,

Not sure I've ever posted before, but what a great source of information this site has been.
I own a 2004 R50, lost the only key that could remotely lock/unlock the car, my second key stopped functioning years ago.
So I ordered a new key from the dealer, and visited the dealer in order to leave the car and have the key programmed.
After 3 days, I am told by the dealer that the new key can start the car but they are unable to program it to lock/unlock remotely.
They also told me that they suspect it is the ECU and they are waiting instructions from the factory in Germany!

How can the ECU work fine with my last key and not with the new one?
Anyone with a similar experience?

Your experience, thoughts, opinion are very much appreciated!
