Just read the whole thread. Nice work! I'm envious of your experience, I wish I had a garage to do that sort of stuff.
Anyway, you got some break-in fluids, but I'm curious, why did you use these if the engine was used? I was thinking since the engine has already been run, all of that brand-new-engine stuff would have been resolved already.
I always use break in oil when new bearings, cams, and/or rings are involved.
I'll do 100 miles or so with the run in oil, then swap for basic 5w-30, run for 1,000 or so, then swap up to the Castrol Edge for the trip cross country.
Great job. I just got the donor car ready to pull engine/Transmission in the next couple of days. Thank you for the feedback you gave me. I will be taking it apart now it suppose to be my Winter Project. I will be bugging you more lol. This Engine will be for a track car so still searching for Parts.

I need to get some of my spare parts for sale. I'm going to rebuild my spare head and sell that. Some pistons and spare parts from the original engine that are in great condition.
After a week of curing, I finally get the wheels in tomorrow to install the new tires. I am still paranoid they are going to damage the newly refinished wheels.
Fingers crossed.
Right now I am Joey modding the new facelift head lights. Turned out the lenses were much more sun fried than I thought. The PPG pant I got to match the car turned out beautiful though. Super easy to work with too I admit. Drying out there now.
Getting down to the wire now. I need to get on the road down to Atlanta by the end of next week before the Canadian rockies start getting pounded with snow.
That's going to be a break in with a purpose. Unless you will be trailing it down.

The black wheels and a few red accents completely change the mini to a different look, a new good look.
Wow great work! This was such an interesting thread. I was getting anxious reading along waiting for the reveal of the final product but it was well worth it. Enjoy that beauty and all of your hard work paid off.

Sorry for the late reply! I know I have been MIA and feared for dead.
So, long story short, I did make the 5,000 mile adventure alive. I'll drop some pics in below and some more details.
I managed 5,000 miles on a new build without a single engine code, incident, or hesitation from the Mini. What a car. even with 400 lbs of stuff in the back. Which did bring the agility down a notch.
It was funny, as soon as I passed into WA, I pas able to drop some liquid gold into her for the first time. Chevron Supreme Plus 94. You can't get above 90-91 in Alaska.
I took this car through some seriously tough spots, and she just kept ticking along without a care. Especially in Canada.
My only serious issue was that the new facelift lights were aimed WAAAY down and I had a serious issue driving a mountain pass at night, in the rain, with a 75mph speed limit. I got so stressed out I had to dig in for the night at a rest stop because I couldn't see more than 10 yards. Plus the huge concentration of overnight truckers passing me at 80mph, on 9% downgrades, started to make me realize how small this car is. I got them aimed towards the moon the next night and my field of vision is spectacular now. Probably blinded everyone for the next 3k miles.
This is Sign Post Village in Watson Lake, Canada. My family actually has a few license plates in here. This is my 6th time driving the Alcan.

I found this in GA. Is a pop out tent/trailer storage super awesome thingy. Wish I had this for the trip and not slept in the back of my car through Canada.
I do have a clunk now somewhere in the front driver side frame. When I pull out in the morning, and reverse, as I begin to move I heard a light clunk. Must be something loose after the trip mixed with the fact they dropped in a new power steering pump right before I left. Maybe they didn't tighten something all the way...Once I have my own garage again here shortly, I'll buy some ramps and get back under this thing.

Willing to bet it's an axle, is it right as you're disengaging the clutch? I too rebuilt my MINI this summer and then took a long trip. After the trip, noticed a clunking when I was in 1st or R and just starting to move...later progressed to a bit of a grinding noise at high speed on the freeway. Swapped in some Cardone Select axles for ~$160 in about an hour and was good to go! Beautiful progress, btw
PS: Cracked Windshield Squad! I got a wonderful 8" crack from a rock thrown by a semi this summer too!
