Hey everyone, need help with my AC system. My wife and I just came out of a store a few minutes ago, and started the car up to cool it down before we put our 9 month old daughter in (we were in Bakersfield, CA). We got in and as soon as I started pulling out of the parking spot I heard something burst. Instantly pulled back into the spot and popped the hood. I've got refrigerant oil all over the underside of the intake (just to the inside of the driver side headlight. Is there some kind of high pressure relief valve or something in that area? Or does it sound like a hose bit it?

Update: Nope, no valve. Just the condensor to evaporator line blew out at one of the fittings from the hard line to the rubber line.

 

Glad you found the leak

Never heard of an over pressure relief on a car hvac system. They try hard to keep the refrigerant inside!

 

I am of the belief there is a relief valve on the compressor, but no one else seems to agree with me.
