side scuttle loose

I've seen a lot of info on removing the side scuttle, but after re-attatching mine it seems to be much looser than before.

When re-attatching, i got the firm and assuring 'click', but it seems to sit a little sloppy, and have more movement than before removing it.

Just curious if anyone else has experience this?

Is the rubber grommet still in the fender area. The side scuttle post goes into it holding it there.

It is. It seems to be attached properly, but if i grab the "S" on the scuttle grill I can jiggle it with about 3-4mm of movement.

I'm wondering if the grommet style fitting looses some of it's 'grab' each time you remove and re-install the scuttle?

I just folded some electrical tape over the post and shoved it back on.

Thanks for all the info everyone! After a closer inspection it seems that the flimsy metal tab that houses the grommet is pulled forward slightly with the force it takes to get the scuttle out, so before putting the scuttle back in you just need to bend the tab backwards a bit. It did't pull forward much, just enough for the scuttle to flop around a few mm.

Seems obvious now, but i'm glad it's fixed.
