Schwaben BMW/MINI scan tool - R53 Video Review

As promised, here is my video review of the Schwaben BMW/MINI scan tool (for the R53's)

If you scroll down, you'll also see the tool's menu map images posted here instead of FB.

Please let me know if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them as best as I can.

Overall map. Unfortunately you can't zoom into see everything. So just use this as a colour map to drill down into what you need to see at the later images.

Will this tool reset SRS/Air bag light on instrument cluster?
Will it also reset Adaptive procedure after auto transmission's valve body swap?

It will do SRS but I could not find the transmission adaptations. I do not have the latest software version installed on my scanner, though.

So you think that the updates have the transmission adaptions? Is the updates available for free?

Does the device reports the actual dealer scanners codes, the BMW/MINI P0XXX code with the actual code description or just the generic OBDII codes?

MINI Specific and stored codes. Updates are free for 18 months , as more updates come out more options might be possible.

Does the tool reset transmission adaptations after the latest updates available? For R53?

I've seen something called "reset valvetronic adaptations" somewhere but I don't remember where, nor what it means.

I don't know what "valvetronic" is at this point, but I'm guessing it's more "top end" of the car like a variable valve timing.

Sorry, but I don't have a slushbox to be able to throw it on to test to see the auto transmission.

Yea, that's for the valvetronic engines R56+ , we did not test this on an auto MINI yet. I have two manuals.

Will this tool ever consider a reset for transmission adaptations in the near future updates?

I am looking to buy one soon but I would also like to have this feature installed as part of the software.

Great job! Nicely shot and edited. You should post this on the other thread as well or link it back to this one.

I don't see it confirmed anywhere so...

Will this clear a hard code like a P2096? How about reset the adaptations on the EMS?

Dont waist you money this is the same thing as Autel DS708. It does nothing special at least for the R53 which is what i was hoping for. Haven't tested on my R56 (It maybe better for the R56 since it more computerized then the R53). I'm about to send it back. It does not clear the Air bag anything. I even asked ECS, before i purchased it and they told me it does. I have this code after removing my seat and forgot to take off the battery and it has never gone away. I wouldn't hold my breath in this getting an updated for the R53 before the 18 months is over.

When i did the original scan it didn't even pick up the P2096. Here are some picture to compare the Autel and this. the menus are the same everything is the same.

The Autel hasn't been updated Since it was purchased in 2011. The ECS unit just came out so imagine.

it reads a module that it doesn't even have a clue what it is. For a scanner that is made for a mini it unacceptable in my opion. The Autel does the same thing.

Sorry to hear that it hasn't worked for you with your airbag sensor, I haven't had any experience with that yet.

But to say it doesn't do anything special for the R53, is not quite accurate. In my case it worked brilliantly, locating which ABS sensor was bad, and telling me plenty of other issues that other scanners didn't.

Controlling each ABS valve individually isn't a commonly required task, but I'd call that special. Being able to control/activate/view pretty much any electronic item on the car for troubleshooting purposes is worth it on its own - and that's not something that others are doing at the moment.

What i was trying to say was that this is advertised as a special unit for BMW/MINI tool and what i was trying to say is that there is nothing special about it and also there wont be any other update for this device for the R53 at least. The unit in my post is about 6 years old and can do everything this can do. There is not difference between the two of them. I mean no difference. If you don't have access to any other pro scan tool this is not bad. I was expecting something better since it "specially designed" for BMW/MINI.

I realize this thread is old, but I was looking for a scan tool and came across this thread. You state the Autel-DS708 can do all of what the Schwaben Scan Tool can do and there is nothing special about the Schwaben. The Autel DS708 is $800, that's a big jump from $200. All things being equal, $200 looks like a win to me.
