Hyper Blue- A Flip Color -?
I looked outside this morning at my Hyper MINI in the early morning (9am) sunshine and almost had to rub my eyes! I saw 3 different colors!
When trying to take a picture, I found it very difficult to snap what I was seeing, but my digital camera has manual F-stop and shutter speed functions, so I played around with those and got this pic..
Notice in the highlight on the left there is a turquoise gleem showing up, and in the deep shadow on the right side of the grill and under the headlight it's kind of cobalt-purple.. or do you guys think I just need another cup of coffee or something??
Could the paint dynamic be the same as Black Eye Purple Haze??

Great Color!
Theres' nothing wrong with having another cup of coffee, or two but the car looks great. The color reminds me of my brothers 03 Miata. It does the same thing. Looks blue, looks purple, depending on light. Very cool. Enjoy your MINI!
Hyper Blue doesn't have much flop, it's a highly saturated blue and the color stays quite similar throughout the viewing angle. British Racing Green still gets the award so far for MINI color with the most extreme flop - going from Black to Purple to Green depending on angle.
...at least through these eyes

Since my dad's company makes all of the hardcore color change paint (like the stuff they use on the UK color shifting MINI's, Ford Cobra Mystichrome, heck even the currency color shifting ink) I can say that that is the weakest color change I've ever seen.
What it might be is metallic bits in the paint getting wierd lighting. Definatley not color shifting paint though.

This phenomenon is called metamerism where the color of a paint changes depending on the type of light and viewing angle and is usually caused by using too many colors of tint to make a color. I used to work at a paint company that, in addition to the kind of paint I worked on (coil coatings), also made auto paint. For some reason, we always had to worry about preventing metamerism but the auto guys never really cared as long as they could make the color consistently. I think that they thought that people thought it was neat when the color of their car changed throughout the day?!
BEPH does something similar..
I was just so surprised to see it happen with Hyper Blue. In mid-day sun/even light the color looks mostly consistant.. but in morning or late afternoon sun, or in strong sun/shade combination light, there is a color shift with the shadows looking distinctly indigo-purple and the bright highlights having a teal tinge, with the main color being a medium blue.
It is very difficult to photograph... I noticed with some of the first photos I took that the image on my camera was clearly a different color than what I was seeing on the car right in front of me, usually with the pic being lighter.
BTW my first MINI was a BRG, and I never saw it do this! ... although back then I used carnuba wax and it did get a gold highlight from the wax
I didn't like it so I switched to a synthetic polymer (and now use Zaino)..
