R50/53 Another Award Goes to MINI for Resale Value
Another Award Goes to MINI for Resale Value
Gabe posted this on his motoringfile.com site today, good to see the MINI still holding its value so well.

For the (counts fingers...) 3rd year in a row the MINI has achieved top ten status by the Kelly Blue Book and came in first in the hatchback segment. Here's the breakdown by category:
• SEDAN: Honda Civic
• LUXURY: BMW 5 Series
• COUPE: Infiniti G35 Coupe
• PICKUP: Toyota Tacoma PreRunner
• CONVERTIBLE: Nissan 350 Z Touring Roadster
• SPORT UTILITY: Volvo XC90
• WAGON: Volkswagen Jetta Wagon TDI
• VAN/MINIVAN: Honda Odyssey
• HATCHBACK: MINI Cooper
You can check out the entire list and read more here. Interestingly BMW (parent company to MINI) was named the brand that Kelly Blue Book forecasts will hold it's value over the next five years best.

Another good reason to drive a Mini... this is great.
My 1992 Mercedes 190e 2.6 Sportline was 12 years old, with 97K on it, and still held 30% of it's value. Pretty good performance! Of course, my 1992 190e cost more in 1992 than the 2004 C-Class sedan does. Go figure.

Reread the article by Kelley Blue Book and was surprised my MCS has every item and option they thought would increase the value of a car. Maybe it will help me come trade-in

The Blue Book editors recommend looking for the following items in a new car to assist in slowing its depreciation:
- Choose colors like black, white and silver
- Make sure the vehicle has power windows, power door locks, tilt wheel
and cruise control
- Alloy or premium wheels
- CD player
- If the model has an upgraded engine option, the larger engine will
most often hold value better
- Remote entry
- Leather
In today's Blue Book you can often add value to your car if the following
options are included:
- Sun Roof/ Moon Roof
- Leather
- ABS (Automatic Braking Systems)
- CD Player or Disc Changer
- Premium Sound System
- Alloy Wheels
- Roof Rack*
- Third Row Seating*
*These options add value on wagons, SUVs and other vehicles as appropriate.

I had a 1992 190e 2.6 Sportline as well.. In '92 they were sure asking a lot for a model that was basically 10 yrs old back THEN.

I don't think bland colors like black, white and silver would help the MINI's resale value. Maybe for an "ordinary" car, but not the MINI. Red, yellow, electric blue, BRG etc. would, I think, be more popular on the MINI than black, white or silver.
Of course, I might be wrong.
