You certainly can rent - you need to contact

MINI Rentals

They have a great range of Cooper and S cars, and even new Cabrio models coming in.

You need a US driving license, and can insure additional drivers for a daily fee of 4 UK Pounds.

Only issues are

1) The steering wheel is on the other side
2) The gear shift is on the other side
3) You have to drive on the other side
4) You have to pay $5-$6 per gallon for gas!

Chris.

No question renting a Mini will be fun but consider renting a Morgan. I did last time I went to the UK. Impractical as all get out but what fun. Fuel injected four got up and went.

You might even have the option of renting a:
Cooper
Cooper ONE
Cooper Diesel
Cooper S

Don't be surprised if they have mostly Cooper ONE and Cooper since those are the most popular sellers. Or you might have to pay a premium for the Cooper S.

Driving on the right side of the MINI and on the left side of the road isn't that hard to do but do remember that the shifting pattern is the same as normal.
When you hit the round abouts and don't know which exit is yours- just keep going round until you see the right exit.

As for high prices for gas, the little Ford I rented in the UK got twice the mpg of an average car in the US so the expensive gas came to about the same $$/mile driven. i.e. 46 mpg and $5.00+ per gallon.

There are a few from DC headed over in two weeks and will be renting MINIs from the company Gabe used. I don't believe the company would rent them S's, only Coopers or Ones...

I rented a MCS at Gatwick

I was in London in April, before i bought my mini. I asked at the National Car Rental counter if they had one to rent me.....the guy disappeared, came back and says, " all we have is the supercharged one, will that be ok?" i smiled like a cat in a fish store. Caution: if you dont have one, and dont plan on being one, careful about renting one. I ordered mine a week after i got back.
