I have replaced everything i can. Belt tensioner, idle pulley, new 2+ at balancer, new belt. But the noise does not go away. It only happens when cold start and will go away after fully warm up. Any suggestions please
When you start the car up spray a tiny bit in each area (on the pulleys) with a little bit of water to see if whatever you hit with water (lubricate) goes away.
You're welcome. Any area that has a tensioner/pulley so even a little on the alternator and belt tensioner. Just go easy and don't soak everything. You could use WD40 if you wanted. Do one at a time to try and eliminate each one from the equation. If you can, get under your MINI (put it on stands) and see if you can maybe get a different perspective on the noise and where exactly it could be coming from.
Im very sure it comes from my new ATi balancer. It happened before with the stock balancer,so i decided to upgrade with the ATI. I reused thr old crank bolt. Do you think that is my issue?thanks
Take the belt off and run the car for a minute to see if noise is gone. If it does go away, and you say you've changed those parts, it leaves the alternator bearing, AC compressor or supercharger. The AC compressor you can test by seeing if the noise changes when you turn the AC on and off (but remember it adds a little load and tension to the belt, so the other bearings do get a little extra load this way).
WARNING - you have no water pump without the belt - don't run it for long, or run it like this if the engine is already hot.
Thanks for all suggestions. I think i will put my car in front end service mode to see what's going on. My alternator went bad few months ago,so i bought a used unit to replace my broken alternator. Then installed it on my car. Than i removed the ac compressor to install noew oring on the camshaft position sensor. My guess is that since i accessed from underneath of the car to remove the ac compressor. The compressor might get misaligned a bit. Will wait if the problem gets worse with driving. For now it just occurs when i start it up.
