I apologize if this topic has been adressed before, I imagine it has..
I seem to be reading a lot of posts dealing with common problems concerning the MINI, some minor, some major, and apparently there seems to be a growing number of MINI owners who are becoming frustrated and concerned with the build quality/reliability of their cars.
My question to all of you out there who have been motoring for some time now is:
Is there anyone out there who HASN'T had any problems with their MINI? And if so, is it an early or late build model? I can't imagine that B.M.W isn't doing anything to address the more common quality issues on a daily basis, and as an anxious member of the "can't wait for November" club, I am hoping that MINIs are undergoing constant improvement as they enter the 2003 model year.
Any input would be greatly appreciated...

one thing that you have to take into consideration is the fact that the mini is a newly designed car... there are bound to be flaws in all new models, little bugs that don't get discovered until after a few 1,000 miles on the road... and as time passes, these little problems will get discovered, and be taken care of...

all new cars are like this... and the mini hasn't been plagued by the problems of other newer models... the pt cruiser and it's leaking fuel pump... or the ford focus which apparently starts on fire at random or has the suspension fall out...

to wrap up my mini-oration, the mini rocks, and it always will!

Hey there,
I'm sure there are many of us out there that have not had the first problem. I bought my Indi Blue in late Sept. I've got around 1500 miles on it, and have not experienced any problems whatsoever. The car is just a dream. I agree with the first response that in any new design there will be faults, but so far, it's been great!

Got my MCS on 10/8/02. He's a 2003 build (completed on 9/14/02) I've already motored over 2800 miles and I try with all of my being not to drive it so much. I'd probably put on 4000 miles a month if I motored as much as I'd like. Anyway,
2800 miles and no problems! This car is as good as it gets. I wouldn't trade it for ANY other car at any price range. It truly is a unique car. The BEST cornering, good power, incredible highway passing power, extremely comfortable leather sport seats and the absolute best styling in the business. Oh, and let's not forget the world's "coolest" sunroof. This car is a blast and IMO, worth AT LEAST doouble it's sticker price!

YEH!!! GOOD NEWS!!! Its rare that I read about people who have not had any problems I hope I am as lucky when I recieve shipment this month. But it was great to hear since this site is bombarded with mini owners that HAVE had problems. However, I must say though being aware of those problems makes it all the easier to deal with when it does actually occur. Id love to hear more good news!

Other than a big fat accident, Coop is great... sniff sniff, he's still in the shop with only 135 miles since the day I got him.

Just about 5K and I do have the occassional engine stumble (waiting on a software fix).....
Regardless of that, it doesn't change how I feel about my MINI. I have loved her since day 1.....she's the perfect car for me!

Pushing 3000 miles since I got it on 9/20/02, no problems except for the occasional rattle, but you'll have that in any car. Mine's right behind the tach, quite annoying, but oh well!

My Ringo's a mid-July '02 build that I took delivery of in August. Just out of the engine break-in period at 1350 miles and zero problems (none, zero, nada, zilch) so far! In fact, sometimes I read the many "problem" posts on MCO and start dreading that I'll encounter something soon.

No rattles, no leaks, no boot latch problems, so broken windshields!

I did have an occasional near-stall when I would first back out of the garage on a cold morning. My dealer told me that the famous CD 31 update would cure that and it was applicable to most 2002 MCs and MCSs. I got the update and again, had no problems, with better idle.

And, my coolant is greenish-blue.
Motor On!

Took delivery on Oct 4. Over 2K miles and no problems what so ever. But, I waited to buy a 2003 because I'm skeptical of any new vehicle in it's first year of production. Gave MINI/BMW a year to work the bugs out and I'm proud I did. Not that there is anything wrong with the 2002s, but my car has a year's worth of lessons learned.

I've put 1,000 miles on it the first week I had it and no problems to date. Every day I find something new to love about this car.

3400 miles on my MCS. Outside of some squeaks and rattles (which seem to disappear and then reappear, must be temp. and vibration related), and now a slight pull to the left, this car is just great! I really love this car! Looking forward to the 3.1 upgrade to see if performance gets even better.

I picked up my cooper on Sept 29th and haven't had any problems. Just now hitting my 1200 mile break in mark. My only complaint is the incredibly dusty brake pads that I need to change to keep my white wheels from getting filthy so fast!

Have had the car since May. It has about 3700 miles. Haven't had any problems, although, I do get the "lag" starting off in first gear. I did have the shift linkage "repaired" but, it was done before any problem had arisen, took a half hour to fix. Loooooooooooove this car.

this may be a dumb question-- are the newer minis having less problems? it seems that the more serious problems are from owners that bought the vehicle a long time ago. Is this true?
