Is it safe?

As the title states I want to know if adding a 15% supercharger reduction would be safe for a motor with 193,xxx miles. My engine is all stock with the exception of a Cold air intake. I don't wAnt to change it, then end up throwing a rod. So I'm asking your opinion, would you do it? My engine seems to be in great condition. No weird noises, ticks, knocks, smoke, etc

if it doesn't smoke at all, and has a good amount of existing pep already. I would do it.

Ok. I just really wanted a second opinion before I did it. She pulls very hard. Just want that extra little pep. I also plan of putting the msd coil pack, plugs, and wired on when I did the pulley swap.

I bought my mini with 186k. Just wanted to make sure it'd be safe.

Assuming you're running acceptable oil, you're about >100 HP down on the risk of throwing a rod.

If you're concerned, do a compression and leakdown test to assure the engine's general health is good, but just a pulley and CAI aren't nowhere near enough added power to stress the Tritec.

I run the castrol gtx magnetec 5w-30 synblend. I'm going to try and get my hands on a compression tester and go from there.

You're good to go, I put mine on years ago at less than 30k miles, now currently over 364k

Those of you with the super high mileage mileage R53s, are you guys still on your original supercharger? I keep hearing to expect to need to replace it between 100k and 150k miles, just curious if that holds true with the high mileage ones (as far as needing it that often, cuz 300+k would theoretically mean 2 new super chargers since new) thanks in advance! Sorry to thread jack

Keeping your supercharger oil is all based on luck. Mine ran out before 90k, others never do. Impossible to guess at a percentage or how long yours might last

Of course you can check it along the way, or you can wait for the noise that might or might not come

The only way to check it is to tear it apart, right? At that point, you may as well change it, so it's either change it, or don't change it. I need to change mine, I'd feel 1000% better if I did.

^Bingo^. It's impractical to get at the SC. There's a small cottage industry in 'maintaining' supercharger oil galleys, but either they fail or they don't. It's actually not that common for them to fail (my guess would be >5% at 150k miles).

I changed mine when I put the pulley on. I found a low mileage charger for $400. My original had run dry and was just starting to wear the gears. I have that one on the shelf to rebuild or use it to put in a car that has a shot charger.

I changed my first one at 192,000 miles because I got nervous. It is fine, still has oil in the gearbox, my second has now been on for 172,000.
