OMG - I'm a speeding ticket waiting to happen...how "Dobby" has changed me...

I used to be this 31 yo mild natured, non-adreniline junkie chica, driving 70 mph in the left lane in a Honda, worrying I won't get pulled over for 70 in a 55. Then "Dobby" came into my life, and now I swear at these "slow" punk @$$ &%^$ Honda driving people.

My morning commute (mostly highway) has changed from a 20 minute, lackluster, not looking forward to work morning ritual, to a 15 minute rush of adreniline that leaves my jaw sore from grinning after my navigating the obstacle course of Hondas, SUVs, and the dreaded Minivans (I recently learned that many times, the far right lane is the actual passing lane) while flying carefully around them at an average 87 mph.

WOW!!!! I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!!!

Yep...I remember this. I had this same kind of euphoria when I got my Jetta back in 1998. Two tickets and the risk of higher insurance changed that very quickly. While I only drive an MC, it's still too easy to do what you're up to on the highway. I've wisely decided to take backroads to work, and now drive through the Cleveland Metroparks to work. Which is all sorts of twisty fun, and you can still make fun of the SUVs that can't take the turns at 40mph and need to slow down.

Just be careful...we don't want a suspended Dobby now.

Not saying I don't agree with you, enjoy the car...that's what it's all about.

I must sound like a wet blanket.

hee hee hee - leave it to you Spav to give me a lecture.

You'll probably know this stretch of road being a fellow NE Ohioan - It's 77S starting at Miller Road, to 76East, off at Kelly Ave (all in Akron). KNOCK ON WOOD, but in the four+ years I have been taking this same hwy to work, I have seen a speed trap ONCE, and the local radio station had tipped me off before I even got there. And the cops are normally going about 75-80 themselves.

BUT, it only takes once!

Oh my yes, the right lane pass is a huge thrill...these grannies and soccer moms that see this flash of blue come out of nowhere and if they blink, they miss it. And they probably say to themselves, "d#mn kids."

Before the inevitable happens, get a Valentine One Radar/Laser detector. It will help you enjoy the full potential of your MCS.

I have got to agree with MGCMAN! Valentine 1. There is no perfect radar detector, but this one is the best. Remember go fast, but don't go agressive.

hey wannamini - the best part is a year later after ownership - i still have the rush!!

in AZ passing on the right is legal (provided you're within the speed limit of course), so that certainly is a handy way to get around traffic.

now you need to learn how to heel & toe with the pedals so you have more speed and a lower gear before you approach a corner to take it faster!! zoom zoom!!

I'm another one! Keeping it under 80 is not that simple

This morning I came up behind a Buick. I was 'progressing rapidly'. The Buick saw me coming, pulled over to the right lane then hooted angrily as I went past. I was probably only doing 75 at the time. Must admit this confused me a bit. After all, I would have thought that it was 'tit-for-tat', me disobeying a speed sign (like we all do) and the Buick failing to 'keep right except to pass'.

Can someone explain this?

there is NO defence for instant-on hand-held laser(the best you can hope for is detecting the guy in front of you getting had)I have a $305 speeding ticket to prove it.If you are alone on the road you'ld be well advised to do the speed limit or "5 over"which most cops today will give you.My mandate is NEVER be the fastest out there and even if passing is legal in your state ,most cops are especially looking for "weavers".Good luck.

Happens to me here in Los Angeles too. I got flashed, and not in a good way , by a guy in a minivan yesterday. I changed lanes in front of him--had atleast a 5 car gap between us, and he still flashed me. I moved ahead a few cars, got back in my lane, and he flashed me again, as I moved out! Then he comes up alongside me grumbling and mumbling something. Weirdos.

I used to wonder why people would flash me when I approached, and I now realize that must be the reason, cause it would always be an SUV or a minivan that's "trying to get me back"

Made me want to mount a huge spot light to the back of my car to blind those flasher! Of course having them run into me wouldn't be a good idea either cause they couldn't see. LOL

If you ever come to Connecticut, beware that most of the staties and quite a few local jurisdictions are using laser guns. The radar detector has become increasingly useless in this state. Like Holdontoit says, never be the fastest one out there. Let someone else be the rabbit.

Have as much fun as you can! People told me to slow down and I didn't. After each upgrade and mod, I found myself driving more and more erratic. “I HAD A BLAST!!”

After 3 tickets in 4 months reality hit and I realized that if I got 1 more ticket “4 tickets in 12 month period” I could get my license suspended. That changed my driving habits. I refuse to ride a bicycle 72 mile every day to work and back.

I have 8 months of driving slow; hopefully this madness will wear off…

You shouldn't have to worry about it. Combined with it being illegal to pass on the right. Because people travel 55mph in the left lane in CT. But it doesn't matter as 95 is only two lanes and both are lucky to be moving at 55 at any given time of the day. Despite there being enough pavement for there to be 4 lanes. 65mph limit/2 lanes/55mph traffic. Compare to mass which has 55mph limit/4 lanes/90mph traffic (even at rush hr!) And yes I attest to the laser in CT, I got caught with it my fist time down there after picking up my mini!
