I think the stock oem thermostat is around 195-200 degrees. Does anyone make a 180 degree thermostat you could swap in there? I would think that cooling the engine down a little bit would have to help with cooling the IC/intake charge down a little.

From TMS....

Cold Weather Alert: If you encounter weather below 50º F or 10º C, please be aware that the ECU could throw a “check engine” light. This is no cause for alarm as the sensors are registering an anomaly and the thermostat is not harming the engine. The “check engine” light can be reset with a diagnostic tool or left as is. Please call if you have questions
Seems to match up with what folks said about the m7 unit that was sold for many years....
One person that had one also told me they lost a bit of MPG... So might be fine for a weekend/summer car, not so sure about a daily.

It's not a good idea for a street car. Most the time it will cause a check engine light. But also it won't allow the ecu to see the correct coolant temp so it won't run the full timing map. If it was a track only car it could be a different story, but on the street car stay stock and stay reliable.
