Well, I have had my first bad experience with MINI dealers

About 3 weeks ago, i scheduled to have my 10,000 mile oil change done. Of course they were booked up until today. I took an hour off of work to get the car in at 8am, when they had their only opening. They dropped me off at work with the statement that it would be done by the afternoon.

Guess what? They just called to let me know they never even started working on it and they won't be done until tomorrow (no guarantee on the time). Apparently 8 hours was not enough for them to undo one bolt and one canister.

BTW, this was at Motor City MINI.

EDIT: On top of this, I left my Ipod in the car. I just hope it is there when I get it back.

Another satisified MCM customer. Talk to the boys on michiganmini.com and they can give you the 411 on Motor City Mini. Just picked up my MINI from Classic MINI of Ohio and I live in Dearborn and I am very hesitant to take my car there.

I know how to do 'em too. I did the first at 5,000 miles. I was just taking advantage of a free one. Bad choice, I guess.

Did you have to sleep at work, or did they pick you up, give you a loaner, or leave it up to you to get home?

They gave me a GMC Canyon. This thing is basically a giant piece of hard plastic.

I love ridiculous american vehicle names, I am sure they will have a model called the "Grand Canyon".

Since I live in Traverse City, MI, and will need to go for my 10K service in about two months. Do I go to Motor City Mini (250 miles) or go to Knauz Mini in Chicago where I bought it (350 miles)?

I keep reading many bad things about MCM, and we know how ryephile feels about them....since it is a day trip, it cannot become an overnight trip! Sure I could just change the oil myslef, but I also will want the V.38, I think my car has V.35 still.

3 Weeks, I waited 5 weeks for my last apointment. You must be a VIP!! Just hope they don't take it upon themselves to adjust your sunroof.
For whatever reason they have worked on mine everytime I have ever been there. It hasn't been right since the first time they adjusted it, which I never asked them too do !!! It didn't rattle open or closed until they "fixed" it.

They fixed everything I asked them too during my last visit, however the wind noise coming from the sunroof, that I never had before the previous visit, is still there. So is the oil they put on the rubber window seal on my passenger door. Everytime the window gets rolled up and down it smears oil on the glass. To be fare, they did offer to replace the seals, so maybe next time, I will take them up on that.

I did get the impression things were improving at MCM based on our new SA. Hopefully things are getting better. Waiting 3 weeks for a oil change that wasn't completed in one day? Seems like a few more techs would be a step in the right direction.

I'm sure that is the issue, however I have more concerns. Diane (I believe) originally called me at 3pm yesterday to let me know they never even started and she stated that there were 3 cars ahead of me. I called back about 1 hour later and talked to Ilya and he said five cars were ahead of me.

I'm convinced that what we see here, is the 'free' MINI warranty work being put to the back of the line, as a low priority, low profit opperation.

If the dealership has any other customer paying work, it seems to get priority, and the lowly MINI can just wait.

I had the same experience on my 10k service, with my MINI being left to last at the end of the day, despite me dropping it of at the dealership the night before!

I actually turned up at 5:30pm, and sat there until they worked on my car

Then they come and tell me they didn't fix the problem I had given them four weeks notice on, because they didn't have the part I'd told them they'd need, in stock!!!

Then they deliver the car 'washed', even though I had written DO NOT WASH on the service document, told the service manager I didn't want it washed, AND written a DO NOT WASH sign and left it on the driver's seat in the car!!!!!

WTF!

They then tried to 'fix' the BMW customer satisfaction survey, by asking me to talk to the dealership first, if I was unhappy in any way with my service experience

I ignored that request, and hammered them on the BMW online survey.

So now I have an appology letter fom the dealership, after BMW contacted them, and a 'promise to do better in teh future'.... for what that's worth!

Maybe it's just me, but the vibe from service was that they considered MINIs to be a lower priority customer than BMWs.....

Chris.

Dayum. Odd thing is, this so-called free work was not free. We paid for it when we bought the car. We need to remind them of this, that we pre-paid them for this work. Based on that fact, they owe us, we should be the "A" customers.

I know, that will go real far with 'em, eh?

UNBELIEVABLE!!

They will not be working on it today either! This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE!

WTF is wrong with these people? I'm picking up the car today without them working on it. I am in the process of writing a letter to MINIUSA and to Motor City MINI.

I don't get it either. She said that they only worked on 4 MINIs today.

i'd go in there today and pick up the car PISSED. rant, rave, make a scene, it's an oil change for crying out loud. put the jackass washing cars under the thing and drain the damn oil.

leave a copy of the letter for MINI with them TODAY when you go.-let them know you mean business. this kind of thing is BS!!!!!! You had an appointment and they should HONOR it, i realize emergiencies happen but they should be scheduling time for emergencies ie: blank space in the roster for an emergency. not over-booking like an airline.

my patients schedule for a reason, and when someone "drops -in" they realize that scheduled patients come first and they have to WAIT. and i have space in my schedule for an emergency.

This is what I thought as well. her excuse was that I wanted the windows to be looked at because they rub against the rubber and squeel somewhat and that takes 1.5 hours per side.

I have had it out in 10 minutes

All is well in the world. I went to the dealer, had a long talk with Jackie and came out with a box full of parts required to do the 10,000 mile service myself and my car.

Good for you. Did she give you the procedures for resetting the oil change interval ? Or did you already know how to do it ?

Cool. I liked Jaqi. As long as the old boy network doesn't burn her out at the dealership, I think there may be some hope left for that place. Of course I am still hoping for a MINI only dealership to spring up locally. Competition always improves the bread.imo.

It's probably not the rubber seal!!! Just sounds like it. Ilya attempted to lubricate my seal with some unknown substance on a rag, because they were unable to duplicate my squeal after having the car for 5 days, yet, it was squealing when he attempted to deliver it too me.

Try this first !!!

http://www.cooperspeed.com/forums/article.php?a=9

I printed this how to out and gave it to Jaqi. (I was intending to give it too Ilya)

My windows now get smeared with this oil every time I roll them down, and they still squeal !!

Jaqi would have likely performed the how-to and replaced my seals if I had asked. I wanted them to be focused on my knocking and wind noises however, so I told them not to bother, this time.
