Is this MINI way too expensive for what it is?

So I'm still trying to track down the right MINI & this one struck my eye on the local CL:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/4888085486.html

It's pretty much exactly what I'm looking for (though I wish it didn't have the nav option), but when I price it out on KBB in Excellent condition, it only prices out to $5700 from a private party. Thoughts?

Consider the market that it is being sold in (I'm an SF native myself). Show up with 75 100 dollar bills and you will drive away with it..

Whoa! That's a lot!! I just got a 2008 Clubman with 13000 less miles, that was fully loaded, for $1000 less than that, and I got mine from NJ and live in South Florida, 2 of the most expensive areas to buy MINI's.

I've been telling people for years that KBB may make sense if you're looking at typical big three cars that may have been rental fleet specials.

It really don't mean crap when it comes to speciality cars. When's the last time you seen a mint BMW e30 for $1200 which is what KBB seems to think they're worth.

I would pass jsut because of the NAV option

Seems a little high, but condition is everything.

Too many miles for price regardless of condition.

Yeah I think that's too much. I bought my 2003 - 3 years ago from that same region for $8000 with half the mileage...way too much.

I hate it when people try to put the cost of repairs to get the car back to driveable (new windshield in the ad) as some sort of qualifier. It means absolutely nothing...

Condition condition condition, if that MINI is in very good condition & has been properly cared for I don't think that price is crazy high. With some negotiation it's likely you can get it for less.

Plus is, it an 11/04 build...
So all the plusses of "refresh" car, but no dang passenger seat pressure mat to fail!!
The mats were installed starting with 1-05 production....so a plus..
Hard to guess if it is a good buy from a picture...
My guess, $6500 takes it home....and that would be in good condition.....and if it appears to have had decent owner take care of it...
How many owners?! Run the Vin...if a one owner car, and it looks good, and a mechanic says "OK",might be a great car...maybe closer to $7000-7500....

Looks like a nice clean no mod car, but the price is too high for the mileage.

Way too expensive for the mileage.

Some equipment listed (DSC and Leather Seats) doesn't jive with that listed on VIN decoder ...

I just sold my 2009 Clubman S with 40,000 miles to an east bay dealer for $9600 and they sold it for $11000 after putting new tires on it. This car is overpriced!

If YOU like the price ... buy the car and stop listening to others .....

what is the car worth in YOUR opinion?

Sounds like you don't think so .. but want someone else to say it IS . . . .

+1 no one ever wants advice they just want affirmation that what they are doing is right...

A fair price is what a 'willing' seller and a 'willing' buyer agree on.

Its actually only priced 1,000 higher than actual book value of 7,900 according to NadaGuidelines .....I would offer 8,000 .. That would be fair ....

Has 118k miles Mostly HWY

Good luck proving this . Wheels look plastic dipped, not factory, try and scrape with your nails.

At this mileage you need to keep $2K in the bank as it may need it any given day.

this may be true for a vehicle that is too custom to price, we have kbb and nada guides. It's worth what it's worth.

I show my 79 regularly and folks consistently ask me "what's it worth?"

My reply, "how actively are we negotiating?"

When I bought it some folks said I paid TOO MUCH

and others said BARGAIN and I would have paid MORE ... but they didn't have a check book in their hand . . .

I think it's a fair asking price. Looks like it's been well loved

This doesn't make any sense...it's worth what all the guides say it is worth... Not 1 penny more. Why? What do you think would happen if the car were totaled on the way home from pickup? Are you going to get a check for "the fair price you paid??"" Nope....you are going to get a check for whatever guides / market evaluation the insurance company chooses to use. I always say that to people - no matter how hard it is to find / well kept the car is...if there is no supporting documentation justifying your price...don't pay it unless you are ready to lose the gap.
