Airbags???

This is my first post on this forum! I have had my MINI since September, and it is literally the MINI from HELL! 😢 (In a bad way) Me and my friend both drive R53's and were wondering if anyone has removed their airbags from a track MINI. Will it cause any issues while driving the car? Any good weight reduction? Thanks in advance.

Good weight reduction, will throw on the air bag warning light as they are missing, can be programmed out using NCS

Awesome! As long as it doesn't have some safety feature that stops the car from running. Do you happen to know about how much the reduction is? Thanks for the quick response!

Just take out the airbag computer. Then the light will go off and won't trigger that the airbags are missing.

Likely goes without saying...BUT...disconnect the battery before touching the airbags.

Thanks again guys. No one knows the weight reduction amount by any chance? I'm trying to salvage my love for this car.vand weight reduction always makes me happy. Especially with how heavy these things are.

Another quick question!

Are the only Airbags the A pillar, B, pillar, and the normal steering wheel and driver side dash?

To pull the head airbags the headliner must be removed. If you disconnect the battery. Then remove the headliner and unplug the airbag computer. You won't trip the code and you can put it all back if wanted or sell the airbag computer. If you trip the code and the airbag light is on you have to get it cleared or buy a airbag code reader. And you can't sell the computer as easily if it has a code. The airbag computer is under the carpet below the e brake.

You can save over 20lbs by removing them all. If you do remove the airbag module you will avoid having a light on.

If you want to put them back in later we offer a cheap tool to reset the light that works with your phone.

Thanks guys! You are SUPER helpful! I would have ended up pulling the computer after and getting a code! Thanks a lot!

I am redoing the headliner anyways. That was the original reason I wanted to pull the airbags while it was already open.

Just to verify, the airbag computer is right in front of the e-brake, correct?

Jeffrey, I just found a thread that says we will need to cut the carpet in half to get it out O.o

Someone PLEASE tell me there is another way. My seats are manual so its not like its hard to remove both of them.

You do not need to cut the carpet. But you will need to remove a seat or 2 and pearl the carpet forward. I did this just a few weeks ago as my airbag computer went bad.
