Just about buttoned up, I think I'll fill the coolant and start it tonight. Still have the typical odds and ends to get together.
Sadly even though I added all the heat in the world, I still broke a pinch bolt on the driver's side when swapping in the cooper S struts. So I still need to fix that up.
Cool thread. Im a bit late joining it, but Im a bit late joining the MINI nation too.
Like the color
Looks like you missed this years racing season, but youll be ready for next year. Looking forward to seeing how it does on the track.
Well it runs and drives, and kinda fits on the dolly. I don't think it'll clear with the bumper on
Gonna run without a bumper for now since I have to swap the radiator. Radiator shop pressure tested it while I had it off and said it passed, but it def has an end tank leak...
Still waiting on a buyer to get his stuff together on a different car so that I have space to move the MINI inside. I did figure out that I do need to pull the head after a compression test, but I kinda thought that would be the case anyway. Not a big deal, the felpro gasket kit is not very spendy. I did end up pulling out most of the interior. All panels, back seats and carpet, headliner, glove box. I'll think about how much more I want to take out. I was going to take out the front carpet, but I saw why it is usually left in, lots of bracing, not a flat floor pan at all. Also mounted the new seat. Hopefully I sell a car this week so I can pull the head this weekend.
Suki - how did you get the rear panels out? I've tried numerous times but stopped for fear or breaking something - specifically I want to pull the trim panel that goes at the back of the boot (hatch) as well as the rear panels that hide he speakers.

If I remember correctly, once you make sure you have the actual screws out just pull. You can also get plastic panel removal tools on Amazon pretty cheap, those can help quite a bit.
Also yes, you will feel like you might be breaking something on some of the panels. I had the advantage of not caring, best advise I can give for that is take a deep breath
Looks and sounds awesome! Is there a reason why you went with a cooper instead of a cooper S?
Because they are both slow (power wise) anyway, and I'll only be doing auto-x and rally-x. The Cooper is also just a little less cumbersome to work on, just based on space.
New radiator is in, and while I was at it I swapped out the terrible plastic bleed screws. Everything is buttoned up, and I am in good shape to do some rallycross on December 5th.

Nice snow auto X . Missed mine this year, but we had no snow anyway.
It hasn't been a great winter for snow here in MI either. I have two Huskies that pull a sled in the winter, and they've been pretty disappointed so far this year
