Why is the S Red?

Just bored at work and wondering why the S badge is red and not green? I guess red is just synonomous(sp?) with sporting not Rosa Corse.

Why would it be green?

Red is the color of sportiness. A lot of auto makers use red logos for their sport models. It's hot and sexy and all that.

I mean, what looks faster to you:

Why is the sky blue?

Why is BRG, not actually BRG?

Why am I asking these questions?

To match the only real Mini color, of course!

I thought it was to perfectly contrast with BRG!

Nigel Mansell won the world championship by running a RED 5 on his Williams-Renault back in '92.

Ask PocketRocketOwner why the GREEN S wouldn't work; it would probably be slower than a diesel MINI One.

A lot of other cars that are deemes "s" models have the s in red...

that I have noticed, The Acura CL - S, and the Carolla S....they both have the model in chrome, and the S in red. I think it just goes along with the whole sporty theme.

Its primary my dear.

Red is a primary color and it one that we (humans) see very well. Since it stands out against every other color it draws more attention...like a sports car (often done in red)...like the MCS (Mine is CR to really stand out!

The S is red because red means "stop."

Actually it doesn't have to be RED.

Just get your fingernail and peel off the red sticker and you'll have a silver S (I've seen it on a DS MCS and it was OK.

Make some S shaped reflective sticky backed replacements and you can have any color you want- it's been done before.

Maybe gold or emerald green would be good or maybe light blue for my IB/W MCS.

Are you sure it is really an S. Look closer. It looks like a stylized curved piece of Hi-Way. It may have been penned before the model name was even chosen. Is it really an S? Think not.

So the cops can see it better, of course!
It's their favorite color: "Arrest Me Red".

Why red?

Redshift. An increase in the wavelength of radiation emitted by a celestial body as a consequence of the Doppler effect....

Though red is a primary color, it is the visible color that is MOST difficult to perceive by the human eye. It is on the low end of the visible spectrum of light (what, about 440nm IIRC).

Personally, I think the "S" is red to mess with the red-green color blind among us, most common in men. Not that I am in that fold, but still... Any thoughts on this, conspiracy buffs?

Marty
