Passenger side axle carrier bearing bracket

I'm replacing my passenger side CV axle and ran into a snag with the new part. Everything seems to match the old one except the bracket/carrier for the bearing in the middle. The new one is smaller and won't reach the mounting points on the block with the axle installed in the transmission and hub. The old part is stamped 026, and the new one is stamped 036. The supplier doesn't seem to know what's going on.

Can I just swap the brackets and install? I'm wondering if the 036 part is for an auto or something. The overall length seems to be the same, and the splines fit right in. I would just send it back but I'd like to get the car on the road quickly, and if I just have to swap the brackets that can save me a few days.

Thanks in advance.

if I recall correctly, you have to remove the old carrier and put it on the new one. It's explained in the video

Great video, thanks.

The new one actually came with the carrier installed, which would have been great if it fit. I guess I'm just worried that the carrier isn't the only thing that's different. If that's it, I'll just swap it with the old one and save myself the trouble of shipping the other one back.

Well, I decided to swap the old carrier out the new axle, and it seems to be working. Never did figure out what car the other carrier was meant for. The video was a big help in doing it.

Did you go with an OEM replacement axle or a less expensive aftermarket unit?

Aftermarket, ordered from Amazon. I couldn't tell any difference between it and the one I took out, and so far it's held up. But my car isn't a daily driver and doesn't get too many miles put on it, so it's a calculated risk for me. I kept the old one, and if the new one gives me any trouble I'll put new boots on the old one and give that a try.
