R50/53 Sunroof Cartridge
Sunroof Cartridge
Hello everyone,
I've been trying to locate a place to get a used sunroof cartridge for my 2002 MCS.
Yesterday I tried to fix mine (asymmetrically stuck in vent position)

I got to the point of removing the whole sunroof cartridge unit to inspect it and to try to see if it was possible to make it work again, unfortunately I could not make it budge so I figured its just best to replace the whole sunroof cartridge but don't want to spend a fortune for a new part.
Do you think I could find it at junkyards?
Any pointers?
The rainy season is approaching very rapidly...
Thanks!!!

When you buy a used unit...
Be sure to look at the end clips... They have a bit of a hook on them(plastic)...not sure what to call the part, but it is not sold separately (you could reuse yours if needed)....if a sunroof is forced open...like with a suction cup, the clip breaks...and the unit rattles.
Have you tried to lube and clean your old unit, then maybe PULL IT DOWN with a suction cup/toilet plunger to get it closed? Might get lucky....then yank the fuse....

I tried to lube and apply down force while activating the motor, but only one side of the glass lowers to position, the other stays open (as you can see on the photo of my first post). I even tried cranking it manually but it won't budge.
I think the left "arm" became out of alignment since each side has it's own screw wire, so the left arm remains up while the left arm goes all the way down.

I was hoping to have it at least forced down, no matter if I damage the system, just to avoid the raining season and while I wait for a replacement cartridge. I couldn't find a way to release the arm from the track and screw wire.
By the way, I found one full sunroof cartridge (minus motor) on ebay for $200 which is a steal, considering the OEM cost of more than $2000 dollars!!!!

Thanks for the tips!!!
Update
Hello, I totally forgot to update my story.
Well... I ended up purchasing a full 2007 R53 sunroof on a local do-it-yourself junk yard for a mere $75 dollars including motor and rolling shades!!!

It was a somewhat easy procedure to exchange them, I even did it all by myself (not recommended).
But that was pretty much the only solution to my sunroof problem.
Cheers!
