I have an 02 s with no options, and I would do the same thing in a heartbeat. Options just add weight and tend to slow you down, plus every car I've owned from 1980 to date have all gone over 250,000 miles. Everything from Suburbans to 928 S to Jags. At these mileages options tend to ware out. Give me a stripper. Take that ant way you like.

Still drivin' a winning combo...
I think and rethink this (...why I don't know) and most commonly I come right back around to exactly what I got. I simply love it. This is why its very good, IMO, to AGONIZE over all the options/colors when ordering one's MINI.
There are days I wish I had a sun roof (cool breezy days)...and days when I'm very content that I don't (heat, weight). However, given all my contentment don't be surprised if you see me driving around in a LY/LY JCW MCS one of these days. Just sayin'.........

Only thing I could see myself changing is the driving lights. I wouldn't have gotten the stock MINI lights. They rattle like crazy when you close the bonnet and they don't really do much when they are on. Not to mention that Princeton really screws people on the price of these things. Aside from that I'm very, very happy.
I'm working on replacing the driving lights with a new aftermarket bracket and some Hella lights (I believe they are FF200's). But that is a little bit down the road and a story for another day.

I almost bought a "stripper" that had been ordered by someone else who decided they couldn't get it. It was bought before I had a chance and I'm glad because of the one option a "stripper" doesn't have, the MFSW. I don't use cruise control a lot, but on long trips it's great to rest my leg, help avoid tickets and help get better mileage. Wouldn't want to be stuck without it and having it fitted later is WAAY to expensive. Also, around here at least, no cruise causes a big hit on resale value. Of course, it does add a couple of ounces of extra weight.
The only option I didn't get that I wish I had is the HK stereo.....I think.

The only thing I would order at this point would be the body colored dash, since it wasn't available until now.
Maybe the auto-dimming mirror, but I recall not being too thrilled with that during the test drive, so I left it off.
Otherwise, Charlie is perfect.

I guess I'm in the same camp as tsprayfhs. I too have run many cars to high miles, one to over a half million miles and that one was very basic with no power options, automatic climate control or anything like that. Simple and light.
My MC is the cheapest Cooper you can buy in the US. It was $16,999. I found it on the showroom and bought it so there was no chance to change anything. If I COULD change anything, I would have the chrome bumper inserts and a cruise control. Nothing else from the factory.
Enjoy,

I wouldn't trade my leatherette sport seats or my sunroof for anything!

I love the sunroof, car feels like a convertable with the roof open and the windows down. Love the lapis blue leather. I like the MFSW, but so far I only use the audio buttons, cruise control is for long trips outside of the metropolitain LA/San Diego area, too much traffic to be effective otherwise.
Parcel shelf is a keeper, don't know why they don't just build the dash that way. Auto-climate control... I use it, but usually with the ac off.
Probably good for resale value around here, if I ever sell. Anyone notice how the contols echo the MINI logo?HK system... so far I'm thinking I wasted my money there. Not so much because of sound quality but because I find I'm seldom turning it on. Too busy listening to the engine, the wind and so on. Maybe I'll change my mind during the cooler months, when the windows spend more time up.

(edit) OH! And I love Ian's auto-up window circuit, but I wish I'd gotten the one with the DCS track mode feature!

I did do it all over again...
I went from a 2002 CR/W MINI Cooper CVT to a 2004 CR/W MINI Cooper S...
I tried to get everything as "the same" as I could. I desperately miss my profile leather which is now not only NOT available on the S but no longer available at all... sigh.
My Cooper S has the same spec as my Cooper, save for the leather seats (oh yes and that issue-ridden CVT). I even have the chrome grill and boot handle and I got the silver dash...
Warbucks (current MINI) looks as much like Annie (first MINI) as I could get him to!

Loved to have had the "bumpy" leather, but I think wasn't avail in the S.
I was "this" close to ordering the JCW package. Damn!
Missed the opportunity to add on the HK stereo by 1 day.
Everyting else is perfect!!!!!

Out

- Auto-dimming mirror... terrible a night because you can't tell what kind of car is behind you (as in cop).
- Lapis blue leather... looks great but $1200.00 and there is the wear/tear issue.
- DCS... Not sure if it does anything but get in the way during spirited driving.
- Leatherette sport seats... less cost and better wear.
- Pepper white with white cap... my black with white cap is o.k. but a wash job lasts about two days.
- JCW (maybe)... really would have think about the cost.

- Sunroof... when driving it's always open with the windows down.
- MFSW... love using the radio controls without taking my hands off the steering wheel.
- HK... great sounding stereo for the cost. JMHO
