Pretzel logic
There is a certain logic in keeping parts as uniform as possible, especially sheet metal. If the sheet metal on the bonnet has not changed on the exterior, changing the headlight mount would create a whole new set of sheetmetal to stock as parts, so manufacturers avoid it if possible. Unless the new headlights require more clearance or size, which I doubt, I bet they will just fit right in a 2004 (wiring probably the same too.) Remember, there are really 4 headlight units now - old regular, old Xenon, new regular and new Xenon. I assume they all are made to fit in the same exact mounting hole. The tail lights are a much more variable deal - manufacturers love to change the "cut out" and shape of tail lights. I would not be surprised, however, if the internals are interchangeable, and the LED unit (which,by the way, has never been seen in an actual car) will plug into a regular bulb mounting hole, or could easily be adapted. Time will tell.
Of course if those new headlights need different programming in the computer to work right... they may physically fit in the car, but still not function properly. This may be especially be true with the Zenons and their autoleveling functions...
And it's quite possible that the new lights won't fit... They not making the old model, they can make changes to the body to accomodate the new lights without worrying about backwards compatability...
