Can you all help me with applying stickers (decals) on windows. Do you just clean the surface and apply....OR...do you use a spray on solution of some sort and squeegee. I am talking about simple small decals such as the NAM decal for example.

 

Use your favorite glass cleaner, buff glass dry and clean, and apply decal dry. Always works for me, but you need to have a good eye, predetermined affixation location, and an affinity for smooth linear application for minimized bubbles.

I've always found it helpful to use the defroster lines as guides, tape the sticker where I want it to go with some scotch tape and put a few marks on the window with a dry erase pen once I get the decal where I want it.

Regarding putting them on, just make sure the window is clean and you work from one side of the decal to the other to avoid bubbles.

 

I'm very challenged with such things due to nervousness I'll put them on in a goofy position. But I just cleaned the spot well and stuck my NAM sticker on making sure it was parallel to the window frame (the left rear). It was a snap and looks great. I think it's a possible Zen thing.

 

Clean the glass well.

Get a small spray bottle of soapy water, spray the area where applying the sticker, apply the sticker, use a squee or something similar to get out the air bubbles.

The reason for the spray is to allow you to move the sticker without damaging it, it also makes getting the air bubbles out easier

 

For small decals like that, I ususally do wat Logan5 mentioned about
masking tape as a guide. I mark off the glass (after cleaning it with a
degreaser such as RC car motor spray) and just aim. I affix the decal
at one edge and gently apply pressure while I rub the decal corner to
corner to eliminate airbubbles as I slowly affix the entire decal onto
the surface.

For larger decals, I suggest masking tape as a guide and soapy water
so that you can adjust and re-align after you apply the decal and then
squeegee out the solution along with airbubbles. :smile: Let dry at least
a couple of hours (or use a heat gun/lamp for 15min or so) before you
go out driving in the rain or wash your car.

 

Has anyone applied any of the side graphics? They seem like they'd be a pain in the rear to do. Maybe I just don't have the patience required... I like the look though.

 

I have been applying decals to race cars and such for many a year. Countless ruined jobs, countless fits were had until I finally paid attention to what pros do......(clean surface a given) they peel the backing, spray the sticky surface with windex or something similar, position and squeegee very assiduously. Then they leave alone. Extra bonus....when it comes time to peel off........piece of cake:smile:

 

Can anyone comment on whether or not the soap/windex method works with stickers like the NAM ones that have very thin lettering and thinner yet graphics like the tips of the gear shift logo.

 

I did the rally stripes on my hood and that was stressful enough! :smile:
