RE: Clunking after vorshlag camber plate install
I searched and found a million threads about this. I just installed the vorshlag camber plates and now i have this extremely violent clunking when i go over bumps. Its to the point where i dont even want to drive the car anymore because it feels like im breaking it.
How do i fix this?
From what i understood its because of the metal to metal contact of the camber plates but that doesnt make sense to me.

have you checked if everything is properly seated & torqued?
Workaround needs a bit of work. If you check SPC's design, you'll notice they have a bit of PU on them.
Ireland's fixed camber plates are actually modded from the Z3 or 4 top mounts. They're more robust than our OE 1s. Again, the reason? Avoid clunks.

Yea I was looking at that, build quality doesnt look as good as the vorshlag though. I got a great deal on a set of bilstein pss9 coilovers and vorshlag plates. Honestly im going to see if i can live with it if not then ill explore other avenues.
True, the Vorshlag is very well built. Check if the plates are seated well under the towers. If you had some mushrooming, correct them 1st. I know camber plates might seem to eliminate the need for tower reinforcement plates but believe me, I've seen mushrooming w/ just camber plates alone. Try them with tower reinforcements from Craven or VIP. Might need some work to get those paired.
Are these used you got, wiz? Try asking Vorshlag for new pillowballs. They might have some wear already.

Everything is seated correctly. Suprisingly my strut towers have no mushrooming (the car has 66k miles). The guy i bought the setup from mentioned to me that i dont need the tower reinforcement plates as well which is a huge plus. I already have the Craven tower reinforcements but i have not put them on yet.
They are used and i did inspect the pillow ***** for wear, they looked fine. The setup had approx 15k miles on it and was never tracked. I might replace the pillowballs just as preventative maintenance in the summer time when i have the car ripped apart to do the clutch + rear main seal.
like i said i'm just gonna have to deal with it. The car isn't my daily BUT i sure as hell love driving it more than my daily lol.

Your top nut holding the strut to the camber plate probably isn't tight enough. If the bearings in the Vorshlag plates have gone bad you'll be able to see the slop. Vorshlag will press in new bearings for you if you send them the plates. Something like $35 a side.
Ours make some clunks every now and then but certainly nothing that has ever concerned me. Something must be loose. Swaybar endlink tightened down properly? Is your endlink hitting the control arm now that you have the car lowered?

I checked top not and its torqued to spec. I checked the pillowball prior to installing the setup in the car and they also had no play. My buddy who has a mini cooper as well with vorshlag camber plates took me for a ride in his mini and it makes the same noise mine makes. So at this point i guess thats the normal sound they make.
Endlink is tight and clars the control arm/chassis. The car is lowered but not slammed.
Honestly im not too happy with the height of these pss9 coilovers. The fronts dont go as low as the rears can go. So basically you can have the rears lower than the front but who the hell wants that.

Are they used? How many miles on them? Check for tightness and that everything is torqued down. If everything is good there, it's most likely the bearing. 100% safe to drive on but annoying to hear while driving. Vorshlag will press in new bearings as v10climber mentioned.
