Our MCS was delivered on my daughter's 13th birthday. She sat in the driver's seat when we picked it up and said, "Enjoy it while you can, Dad."

I told my daughter she could have mine when she can pry my cold, dead hands off the steering wheel! Seriously, I cant wait for the day when she learns how to drive him. Right now she can only drive my wife's automatic Civic.

I was lucky growing up. Although the cars they used to teach us were pretty pedestrian, my parents insisted that all of us (I was the first of three) learn to drive a car with the proper number of pedals! As a family, we still all agree that, barring physical disability, all new drivers should have to take their practical driving test in a car equipped with a manual transmission- preferably one without a hill-holder feature. Even if that new driver never touches a clutch pedal again in their entire driving career, the experience does wonders to build respect for leaving proper space between cars at intersections!

Ok the only reason to not know how to drive a stick is access to one ,,,,,,,,OH you own one, there now she can learn.
My daughters first remark when she got back, was,,wow, can it stop
which I guess is better than ,,,Wow ,does it go

I might be comfortable with my kids and wife driving my MCS... but they don't have any experience with a manual transmission... Should I teach them in my MINI? Aren't they going to hurt the gears?

Godspeed.

Our kids want nothing to do with the MINI - huh??? Oh well, guess we don't have to worry about anything happening to Scooter while one of them had the chance to drive it -

Chow!

Yes, but that brings up the question why did she have to find out how fast it stops?

As one without children but wishing I did, it is always good to find rationales why there are benefits. The thought of a 16 year old Inioway Jr. driving my Mini is terrifying. My best wishes to all parents facing such a prospect.

Because it's fun to come up to a stop sign doing 30 mph,and stop in what
feels like one car length and not chirp the tyres, come on every one
knows that

one of the reasons I didn't learn stick was that the cars tehy used were too small.. they had a fixed length on them so the back seats had engouh leg room... it was so ridiculos.. needless to say I took hje automatic, sicne then I've learned to drive one, just not very well.. I do better on more forggiving clutches..

So, she learned by her dad's example. Verrrry interesting parenting. Actually, it probably means you are just more fun than my dad was, but I love using the particular smilie.

So, Chollomo, does this mean you have a CVT?

Girls can drive stick too!

My wife and two daughters insist on a manual transmission! With 85% of cars sold in the US being automatics, some people are very shocked when they drive them around. Of all the cars I have ever owned, only 2 have been autos, and that was only because manual was not an option.

1967 Opel Kadette S (stick)
1969 Triumph Spitfire (stick)
1973 VW Thing (stick)
1974 Dodge Omni 024 (stick)
1975 Saab (stick)
1984 Dodge Caravan (had kids) Auto
1986 Isuzu I-Mark (don't laugh - great car)
1991 Isuzu Trooper (stick)
1991 Mercury Capri XR2 Turbo (stick)
1996 Land Rover Discovery (stick)
1998 VW New Beetle (stick)
2001 VE Passat V6 4-Motion (no stick with AWD)
2003 Honda Element AWD stick

Her Dad,me,thought her to go down washed out back roads in a station wagon full of gear ,and kids, and dogs. Sit in the rain for days ,then load the wagon and drive out with the 4x4's.Then get out of bush and drive for the first ice cream parlor. The only thing that handles better than a beater ,is a loaner

 I don't have any biological children, but I consider many of the MINI folk to be family! I learned how to drive a manual tranny when Dad bought me my 1972 Fiat 128 wagon. I drove her home off the showroom...that was my first experience driving a stick-shift! Bwahahahahaha!!! Man, I learned fast! Heheheheheheh! "Sofiat," the Fiat, was taxi-cab yellow with black racing stripes and a roof rack....a great art and surf wagon! I LOVED that car....sigh!

Cheers!
Clo/Wanda
