Has there been a fix for the problem of the door seals trapping water under them and causing rust?

I get tired of taking the strip off every time I drive in rain.

I don't know of an official fix but I have seen examples where a strip of tape was applied over the lip to keep water from getting in between the two pieces of sheet metal. This was done after the rust was repaired obviously.

 

This should be covered in a sticky....
Was an issue on some gen1 cars....should have been fixed under a service campaign if I recall right...
