Why keep keys out of ignition with seats out?

Hey Guys,

I have my 03' MCS pulled apart and the passengers side seat taken out. We're expecting a big snow storm and I want to move the car in the garage.

Can I move the car with the passenger seat and everything disconnected?

I have heard to disconnect the battery or keep keys away from ignition when the seat is removed - but nobody says why?

If anyone knows, I would appreciate it. I'd like to move the car within the next 2 hours.

Mike

A lot of people track their cars without the passenger seat in.

With the seat disconnected and the key turned to on you will get an Airbag Light that will need to be reset.

Couldn't you just put the seat in without bolting it down, and connect the connectors? Easier than resetting the light you'll get otherwise

Sure as long as the computer sees the airbags during the test you are fine. If it sees that ANY airBag is missing it will throw the light.

Don't worry about it, get your car in the garage, If it's not connected the computer can't see it.. you won't get a warning light, cause there's nothing for the computer to diagnose.

You will get an airbag light......a trip to the dealer to reset it ( most charge about an hour)....or have to buy the airbag tool...

It will throw a code for an open/short in the seat airbag. Keep in mind that the airbag ecu check all the components, if one is missing or faulty, it will code.

Well, I guess, it's up to you. 3 feet of snow on the roof of your car. Or car in the garage dry and happy with a warning light…
