R50/53 My Baby Has Arrived !!! I Love the Way He Smells!!!
#1
I picked it up yesterday. Love that new car smell!!!
The dealer was great and he took the time to give me a driving lesson (I haven't driven a stick in at least 10 - 15 yrs) .
MINI and I are still getting used to each other but when I took it out on 287 (Northern NJ) yesterday, I realized what a pleasure it is to drive it. It goes fast and the engine just hums. Several times I did not realize I was doing 80+ mph (yikes!).
I took my sister for a ride in it and she thought it was a six cylinder (HA!)
However, I have to get used to driving a stick again, so I'm still cutting it off at times
Once I've gotten used to using my left foot I'll have more time to enjoy the car!!!
Right now I'm very nervous but excited.
BTW: I noticed a lot of folks riding my butt (vans and LARGE trucks mostly), even when I was doing 75+mph. Is it just me?

I HAVEN'T noticed this at all. In fact, I have noticed very few people cut me off in my MINI. I think that since my MINI stands out, it may just be that people are startled when they see me coming and that second pause keeps them from jumping out in front of me. Whatever the reason, I'm really enjoying it!

YaY! for Minimojo!!! Good luck with that stick shift, like I told ya, Nice and Easy... (And see, i told you you'd pick Alucard... )
But trust me, you're not the only one who's MINI causes bad behavior in other drivers... I get tailgated quite a bit, people speed up to go around me and then slow down to look, and a lot of people seem to be 'offended' when i zoom past them thru turns or off the line... so they feel the need to drive like an idiot to pass, and then slow down... grrr... (doing almost 80 on the weekend, a Minivan passed me on the thruway.. is an astrovan really safe at 85-90mph? baka baka baka...)

(and yes, it does smell nice when you first get it... make sure to keep it really clean, use lots of chemicals in it, (i'm addicted to armor-all wipes in the cans) and that should help prolong that new car smell)

>>minimojo - where r u? Did you get yours from Mahwah MINI? I got mine from Morristown and live between Route 78, 287 and Route 24 in Union County. Are you in Bergen county?
Yes. I got my MINI from Prestige in Mahwah. I'm in Hudson county. I heard really good things about Prestige so even though it's a drive (about 1hr) I went to them. So far, I'm happy with the attention I've gotten and the good service. You might see me travelling 78W to 24W each morning as I go to work (I'm off of Columbia Turnpike).
