Brake lines

Does anyone have or know where I can get the rear brake line banjo bolts for an R53?? Original lines thread straight into the caliper and I have lines that use a banjo bolt.
Thanks for the help!

Unfortunately, I think you need different lines. I remember shopping SS brake lines, pretty sure they changed rear calipers at some point (maybe 2004?)

Banjo bolts are usually longer than the threaded hose ends. The caliper itself will need to have a wide flat spot for the banjo to rest on, and with either some type of slot or clip to hold the brake line 90 degrees to the caliper, and prevent it from twisting.

I with I could tell you it would be more compatible, I just don't think it will fit right.

Yes Alex. They changed from a banjo bolt rear to the threaded type in 4/2003. So before 4/2003 , banjo type, after that threaded type. You cant get the banjo bolt by itself from MINI, just the gasket rings.

#14 gasket rings. #11 older type , #12 newer design.

Here are some options.

Buy a stock new rear line, which comes with the bolt. It also comes with thw gasket rings.

Brake Hose - Rear For MINIs up to 4/2003 production.

If you are looking for SS lines for pre 4/2003 MINIs, we have them here. Just reuse the banjo bolts.

ECS Exact-Fit Stainless Steel Brake Lines - Kit up to 4/2003.

So, the Calipers are different, right? One can't just attach a banjo fitting to a caliper that is designed for the threaded type.

The caliper probably has a square indent that this banjo fits into.

I just did a caliper replacement with my friend on his Jeep Cherokee. Think of Banjo Guitar. The caliper had a place for the box to go, then something to hold the guitar neck (brake line) to prevent it from unscrewing.

Not sure which caliper OP has, but make sure you get the right hose. IF you could even get the wrong type of hose to fit, if it comes unscrewed, all the brake fluid will pump out, then you'll be screwed!

Have fun, be careful, hope that's helpful.

banjos

Thanks for all the help but I did find them at Summit Racing and we do have one here in Reno so all worked out. I do have a later model 2003 mini s with threaded lines into the calipers directly and YES you can install banjos on these as there is a base or flat flange to seal the banjo to. I must have bought a set of s/s lines braided over a year ago and forgot about them until a tool hunt in the garage and came across them so I decided it had been long enough sitting upon the shelf. They did make some difference in feel as well.
Thanks again and incase you are curious the threads are m10x10.
