Clutch travel

My daughter's 2003 Mini stopped moving near the house so we were able to pull it home. The clutch pedal was on the floor doing nothing. I managed to get the leaking clutch slave cylinder so that will get replaced. I'm nervous something else has failed as the existing slave unit barley reaches the cup on the clutch arm. The Clutch is angled toward the engine, is this normal? (As if it is in the depressed position). The engine also seemed to be making a different noise. Any help or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks.
