I've noticed a quirk with my R53 where the cluster does a reset when I start the car. It's been doing it for a while now, during cranking the speedo tries to turn CCW making a clicking noise and the clock resets as well. I only just recently tried the cluster reset for a P2096 code I was having and noticed that this was the same thing that was happening when I start my car. It doesn't happen every time and sometimes when I turn the car off. I think it started happening when the stock battery began not holding a charge. That's since been replaced by a lightweight Braille but the problem has been intermittent ever since.

 

I have the same issue, had my mini a month and this has happened twice.

 

Maybe its a bad ground or you have something that is staying on which is draining the battery. Do you drive the car everyday or do you let it sit for a couple of days? My last car was in an accident which caused the hatch to not close and the light in the trunk wouldn't turn off slowly draining the battery causing hard cranks every morning' but if it sat for a couple of days I would need to boost it.

 

I have the same issue when I has my Kinetik KR612 lightweight battery in, put a new stock battery back in problems go away.
