R50/53 door lock
door lock
This is not another post about the know problems with the door lock. I've already replaced the door latch actuator and bowen cable.
This morning I unlocked the Mini just fine, but when I tried to lock it, the tiny little metal piece that moves out of the way when you put the key in the cylinder jammed sideways. The key won't go into the lock, therefore I can't lock my car.
Is this just a replace the key cylinder and all will be well with the world? Can I do that myself or is this a dealership repair? Or can a locksmith fix it?

How bad is it jammed, it might just be gummed up from very little use. I would try some PB blaster or penetrating fluid ( soak it ) on the flap then try to move it back into place with a paper clip. Then try to push the key in again.
Good luck.
Good luck.

My door lock broke in the back, not where the key goes in. Here's the thread I started with questions about what needed fixing:

If you need any parts in the second picture let me know and they are yours. I had to get a new one and it seems to be made of a more sturdy metal.
You will have to take your actuator out to get to the actual locking mechanism.
