R50/53 DSC and Yo-Yo
I turned off my DSC while driving my 2004 S last night and noticed a huge improvement in the Yo-Yo symptoms. Anybody else notice this? How are they related? Is it just my butt-dyno and imagination?
I think you're onto something.
I only have the standard ASC (not the DSC option) but I noticed the same thing awhile ago. I never even drive with it on anymore. I actually noticed it more in terms of the "stumble" off the line. I never really seem to have yo-yo or stumble when its turned off, but notice it when its on. Maybe that is the culprit -- at least partially -- behind both problems?

I have noticed many performance issues with the DSC on, and now turn it off most of the time. I think it is toooo sensitive. DSC off seems to improve the Yo-Yo, but by no means resolves the shuttering car/headrest-break-in feature.
I've never experienced any correlation between DSC and Yo-Yo. There isn't any reason to either, as the DSC isn't impinging on the engine's output at part-throttle, where the Yo-Yo occurs.
Dare I say: it's all in your head.

I don't know. I was driving it around yesterday and experimenting with DSC on and off: DSC on = Yo-Yo, slugish feel. DSC off = no Yo-Yo, better response, better acceleration. It is like night and day. The air conditioner makes the differences even more noticible.

I agree. I found less yo yo in the lower gears with the DSC off. It's too damn aggressive IMHO.
Although it saved my tuchas going around a fast (surprise!) sand covered blind turn, so I still leave it on most of the time

Yo-yo usually occurs when you accelerate with the pedal halfway down. You get a back and forth motion going on. Its not like the stumble when the car just doesn't want to go. Most cars (all makes) have a bit of yo-yo. Some worse than others. I usually solve the problem by always going WOT.
