R50/53 Boost leak?
Boost leak?
Have been hearing a noise whenever i raise my engines rpm. I have narrowed it down to a boost leak, as my couplers are cracked and it recently started once again after using some gasket sealer on the outside of the couplers
The noise is kindof a screech, its not the supercharger whine. And its not the belt.
I am 90% sure its a leak, i am saving up for couplers, they will be replaced either way
But, does anybody know what a boost leak soundslike? Am i right in it being a screeching kind of sound, its kindof a weird sound
Anybody else know?
Thanks

The sound of a boost leak will change depending on WHY/HOW it is leaking....
I would suggest you get ic couplers asap...about $80 or so new.
Also as a temp fix, you could try wrapping some e-tape sound it, installing it, then maybe using a couple of long zip ties to try to keep the tape from bubbling off....with 15 psi or so...even a tiny split will makes tons of noise/force it way out....the couplers CAN be bought individually... So replace the leaky one asap...if it goes...you might get stuck....then have a tow bill.

I recently found my intake manifold gasket between the head and the intake is leaking at the cylinder #1 intake runner. You can check for vacuum leaks with brake cleaner or carb cleaner by spraying it on whatever you think is leaking, the car should start to idle funny when you hit the leak with the carb/brake cleaner.
A word of caution: If your plug wires and coil have cracks/voltage leaks, you WILL find them with the brake/carb cleaner, and it WILL start on fire, so stay away from those.
