R50/53 2006 MCSa air intake tube
2006 MCSa air intake tube
I went to the DMV for inspection the other day with our '06 MCSa (66,183 miles) and was failed for a P0456 OBD code.
The DMV is close to our dealer so I decided to stop in and the dealer was able to take a look right away - very nice of them. : )
I had already Googled the code and found that the likely was a new (gas) filler cap. The dealer's work order says they found the seal leaking at the gas cap so replaced the filler cap.
The SA said that they found the air intake tube was cracked and recommended that I have it replaced. They didn't have one in stock but said it would be ~$120 total for part and labor.
I said I would call them the next day to order the part - partly because I wanted to check it out myself. Yowza, talk about a crack.. and the car is driving fine.
Before ordering the stock replacement and having them just put the same rubber tube in place (my inclination), is there a better, just as reliable alternate out there? CAI intake? Some silicone tube?
Just curious before I go the standard route...
Thanks!
Scott

Buy the part from them and put it in yourself. Save the probably $50 or more on something you can do with your eyes closed. Stealerships...er.. I mean dealerships are someplace you really want to stay clear of.
